The Curran brothers, Cathal and Patrick, were in unstoppable form as Colaiste na nDeise captured their first Harty Cup at Nenagh CBS's expense in Cashel yesterday.

Nenagh CBS 1-10

Full forward Cathal scored 1-9 while corner forward Patrick bagged 1-2 to help the Waterford combination side to an historic success. Both teams finished the game with 14 players after Podge Shanahan and Evan Collins were sent off, but it failed to dampen the celebrations of the boys from Dungarvan CBS and St. Augustine's College, Abbeyside who atoned for their 2004 final defeat to St. Flannan's.

The winners signalled their intent with two goals inside the first 12 minutes. Patrick Curran crashed home the first in the ninth minute after a sweeping move before Cathal added the second from a 20-metre free three minutes later.

By the 16th minute, Colaiste na nDeise had opened up a 2-5 to 0-1 lead and were 2-10 to 0-5 to the good at the break.

Nenagh outscored their opponents 1-5 to 0-4 in the second half with a last-minute goal from the subdued Jason Forde putting a better complexion on the scoreboard.

"It's unbelievable. They came from nowhere," said winning coach Darragh Duggan.

"Kerry Colleges beat us two years ago and we were at the lowest ebb we could be. They boys have come back and you saw today how much they wanted it."

Colaiste na nDeise will now face the Leinster runners-up in the All-Ireland quarter-final, while Nenagh CBS will get a chance to revive their season against the Ulster champions in the last eight.
