Donegal SFC: Eunan's land second title on the trot

October 06, 2008
St Eunan's 2-13 Termon 1-8 St Eunan's captured back-to-back Donegal Senior Football Championship titles yesterday at Ballybofey after seeing off underdog opponents Termon by a convincing eight points. County star Brendan Devenney kicked three points from play as well as setting up both of the Letterkenny side's goals late on in the first-half that all but assured Eunan's of the title. After the opening quarter the sides were level on 0-4 apiece, with the frees of Christy Conaghan keeping Termon in touch with Eunan's pacy start to the game. Eunan's struck their first major on 28 minutes when Devenney found Rory Kavanagh with a perfect pass and he in turn one-twoed around the opponents' defence with Ciaran Sharkey before fisting the ball into the back of the net. Four minutes later Devenney supplied half-back John Haran with another sublime ball and he struck for a second green flag, giving Eunan's a 2-6 to 0-5 lead at the half-time interval. In the second-half Termon continued to rely on the frees of Conaghan, which were cancelled out by Kevin Rafferty's equally accurate placed balls for the champions. Kevin McMenamin won a late penalty-kick for the trailers that was well-converted by Declan Alcorn, but the damage had already been done in the opening-half hour and Eunan's ran-out comfortable winners come the final whistle.
