Kildangan club notes
Under 8's
The Under 8's travelled to Monasterevin on Saturday to take on the home team in a Go-Games Blitz.
The 6's/7's game was a very entertaining affair with Kildangan proving to be that bit stronger. The improvement in this group of players throughout the year has been remarkable and we saw great performances from Lorcan Hyland, Conor O'Neill, Shauna Sexton and Ben Keogh.
The 7's/8's game was evenly balanced with Kildangan just about having the edge over their hosts. Both sides hit some great scores and Kildangan defended well, especially in the closing stages. Sarah Walsh, Eoin Murphy, Robert McGrath, Jack Kenna and Lauren Muldowney were some of the Kildangan stars on the day.
Under 13's
The Under 13's travelled to Rheban on Sunday morning for the penultimate round of the League.
Having started well Kildangan fell behind to two goals in succession and struggled to find a way back. Brandon Foley, Edward Bond, Conor Hyland, Michael Howard and Jack Hickey gave their all from start to finish but just couldn't do enough to forge a Kildangan win.
Under 11's
The Under 11's took on Two Mile House on Thursday evening in the first round of the Under 11 Winter League.
Kildangan proved to be much stronger than the visitors winning 6.10 to 1.2. A highlight of the Kildangan display was the link play from defence to attack with some outstanding moves throughout the game. Well done to Chantelle Carroll, Ryan Moran, Robert Hanley, Jordan Kaye and Dara Gilbert who gave great performances for Kildangan.
Under 14's
Well done to the under 14 girls from Kildangan Nurney, who claimed their first piece of silverware for the year with a comprehensive win against Nas na Riogh on Saturday. Kildangan players to feature in this game were Marie Fitzgerald, Ciara Byrne, Grace Nealon and sisters Caoimhe and Aoife O'Fearghail.
Pitch Closure
Many locals will have been saddened to witness the demise of the old football pitch in Kildangan. Scene of many great and exciting games down through the years, the field was a wonderful setting for football, with many fine mature beech and chestnut trees.
Every cloud has a silver lining and with the new development coming on stream next spring, things will indeed be brighter for the many underage players who have come on board. We had our first "unofficial" training session on the new pitch Friday evening, and everyone was very impressed with the wonderful surface and the amount of space compared to our previous location. With the move, our field day has had to be postponed to the spring.
Dinner Dance
Kildangan GAA dinner dance is set for the 22nd November. We are currently scouting around for suitable venues, watch this space for more details.
