Senior championship getting a bit rushed

September 19, 2008
With the Leinster club championship getting ever so much nearer there is little choice in Kildare GAA circles but to host quarterfinal championship action on Sunday next despite the All-Ireland final taking place on the same day. The final of the senior championship is due to be played just one week before the All-Ireland club series begins and a few weeks ago, Padraig Ashe the Chairman of the Fixtures Committee warned that it might have been necessary to come out on what is normally a 'closed day' on the club scene. The quarterfinal action begins on Saturday afternoon when Mick Monaghan takes charge of the game involving Allenwood versus Celbridge (15.00), which will be followed by Sarsfields against Confey. The other two games are scheduled for Sunday with St. Laurence's taking on Carbury at 12.30 while county champions Moorefield must engage Round Towers right after the Croke Park game, at 17.45. This 'rushing at the end' has become somewhat of a feature with the championship and such a situation will remain until such time as an agreement is reached to get the championship completed earlier.
