Cavan boss expected to be known by weekend
September 11, 2008
Cavan County Board chairman Phillip Smith has revealed that the Breffni County hopes to have its new manager in place in the coming days.
Smith revealed that eight candidates in all had been interviewed for the position last week, which had be narrowed down to three options for a second interview earlier this week.
"We had a large number of applicants and we whittled it down to eight," Smith revealed earlier in the week.
"We interviewed those eight people last week and shortlisted three for a second interview and that process is going to occur this week.
"I would hope that by the end of the week we will know who the next manager is."
The Kingscourt clubman has refused to let any of the three names be known at this time, but confirmed that there "will be further discussion with the three remaining candidates this week".
"I'm not at liberty to say who the three people are," said the chairman.
Former Dublin and Roscommon manager Tommy Carr is believed to be the bookies' favourite, with Dominic Corrigan and ex-Armagh player Justin McNulty believed to make up the trio. The fact that Smith has also admitted that "it looks like" a manager from outside the county will be offered the position fuels that speculation.
