A new GAA club could soon be formed in Naas.

Dublin native and former Naas GAA underage mentor Cathal Kelly believes a second club is needed to cater for the Co. Kildare town's rapidly growing population.

"A second club is badly needed in the town," the successful businessman told Kildare Live.

"A few lads, along with myself began to look into it, we have done a feasibility study, looking at the stats - 30,000 in town at the moment, by 2030 it will be up to nearly 40,000 and with new development plans won’t be far off 70,000 by 2040, there is a need for a second club and that will grow and grow.

"Initially, we would hope to start at minor level down to the juvenile section, that would be the start and we would take it from there."

He acknowledged: “A lot of hurdles to cross. There is a lot of kick-back from the club but there has to be somewhere for kids to go, I have a good core of seven or eight lads, all members of the Naas club.”

Kelly also stressed: “This is not an anti-Naas GAA thing, it is a pro-GAA thing.”
