UL cruised into the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup with a 4-24 to 1-20 victory over DCU at the DCU Sportsgrounds last night.
In what was a repeat of last year’s decider, the Limerick students would also record a similar result thanks to goals from star attackers Adam English (2), Darragh McCarthy and Adam Screeney.
English and Tipperary ace McCarthy struck the goals as the visitors took in a 2-11 to 1-11 half-time lead, with English grabbing his second goal eight minutes into the restart before Offaly’s Screeney put a seal on the win.
UL now look forward to a home quarter-final tie against the winners of this afternoon’s clash between UCC v Garda (2.30pm) in Templemore.
Elsewhere, Daragh Neary’s late point secured a 0-21 to 2-15 draw for University of Galway against hosts TUS Midwest, securing their top spot and a home fixture next week.
Mary I came good in the second-half to record a 1-24 to 5-9 win over ATU Galway to finish top of Group D and set-up a home quarter-final date against UCD.
