Fresh from his game-winning intervention in last Saturday’s Tailteann Cup final, dual star Brian Byrne was back in action for his club Naas in the Kildare SHC 24 hours later.

Held in reserve until the 57th minute, Byrne still finished with 0-3 as Naas romped to a 5-28 to 0-7 victory over Confey at Cedral St Conleth’s Park. It came after he deflected Limerick substitute Rory O’Brien’s goal-bound shot over the bar in the dying moments of the Tailteann Cup final. Had he not, the Treaty would have forced extra-time at Croke Park.

While Naas have their sights firmly set on a seven-in-a-row of Kildare SHC titles, Confey’s goal is to consolidate their senior status and they have already achieved this thanks to their preliminary round victory over Moorefield.
