The Camogie Association will hold a special congress at Croke Park this evening to vote on whether or not to allow shorts to become part of the official kit for the sport.

Delegates are set to gather at GAA headquarters around 7pm to vote on the motion which needs a two-thirds majority to pass.

Over the past couple of weeks, camogie teams across the country have been protesting the wearing of ‘skorts’ in games by togging out in shorts.

Ahead of the Leinster senior semi-final between Kilkenny and Dublin on May 3rd, both sets of players came out on to the pitch wearing shorts and were told by match officials to change into skorts and, since then, there has been a snowball effect with the Munster final between Cork and Waterford the following weekend being postponed over the unresolved skorts issue.

Special Congress has since been called and a vote will take place this evening at Croker.

Last year’s Camogie Congress in Kildare to allow players to wear shorts fell short of the 66% support required to pass, with only 45% voting in favour.

However, an annual survey from the GPA reported 83% of camogie players said they should have a choice of whether to wear skorts or shorts while playing the sport.
