Laois are Allianz Hurling League Division 2 champions thanks to an emphatic 3-18 to 0-13 victory over Kerry at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise this afternoon.

Unbeaten coming into this league decider, the hosts laid down an early marker with a goal from Tomás Keyes in the opening minute and never looked back as Cillian Dunne’s goal four minutes later and the points of Aaron Dunphy (3) and Keyes (2) had them up by 2-5 to 0-2 come the 20th minute.

Kerry, who secured promotion last weekend after defeating Meath by two goals, got points back through marksman Ronan Walsh but still went in at the break trailing on a 2-11 to 0-8 scoreline.

Laois had the sliotar in the net again six minutes into the restart via Fiachra C Fennell and three more Dunphy points put them up by 3-15 to 0-11 heading towards the closing 10 minutes.

Liam Og O’Connor and Padraig Boyle sent over the last two points for the Kingdom prior to Dunphy, who finished with 0-11, rounding of his side’s tally in injury-time as they secured the silverware in impressive fashion.
