Michael Duignan achieved a notable milestone yesterday when he commentated on his 25th consecutive All-Ireland senior hurling final for RTÉ television.
Since playing in his last All-Ireland final in 2000, the Offaly hurling great and former county board chairman has been in the commentary box for every Liam MacCarthy Cup decider, including yesterday's where he was on co-commentary duty alongside Marty Morrissey. On the pitch at Croke Park, Tipperary claimed their 29th title with a sensational 3-27 to 1-18 victory over a much-fancied Cork.
Trailing by six points at half-time, the underdogs produced a stunning second half performance to run out emphatic winners. In Michael Duignan’s words, it was "one of the great All-Ireland final second half performances.”
Congratulating the 1994 and '98 All-Ireland winner ahead of the final, Offaly GAA said: “We extend our very best wishes to former Offaly chairman and proud Offaly man, Michael Duignan, as he prepares to co-commentate on his 25th consecutive All-Ireland Hurling Final day with RTÉ Sport.
