Rory Beggan is looking forward to working with John McEntee following his appointment as the new Monaghan senior football manager, but is hoping their working relationship will not begin for a few weeks yet.

The Scotstown goalkeeper is currently focused on his club's bid to retain their Ulster club senior football championship title before turning his attention back to the county set-up, with the Farney County champions set to open the defence of their provincial crown against Derry counterparts Magherafelt this Sunday in Clones (1.30pm).

Speaking to BelfastLive.co.uk, Beggan believes McEntee brings considerable experience and knowledge of Monaghan football, having previously managed Clontibret and Inniskeen.

“John has a serious knowledge of Monaghan football - and Scotstown as well - he’s played us so much,” said the 2018 All-Star winner.

“He's been around the block. He's won a championship with Clontibret and nearly won them with Inniskeen.

“The big thing about John is he has a serious pedigree of winning himself when he played football.

“Taking that into context, it's his first gig in inter-county football, but he's got people around him to help him along the line. We're looking forward to getting stuck in, but hopefully not for a couple of weeks.”
