Tipperary commenced their Munster U20 hurling championship title defence with a hard-fought win over Cork in Thurles last night.
It finished 1-21 to 0-22 at FBD Semple Stadium, where Jamie Ormond’s second-half goal proved crucial for the hosts.
Barry Walsh’s free saw the Rebels lead by 0-12 to 0-11 at the halfway stage and they’d go on to extend their advantage to six after the change of ends as scores from Walsh, Johnnie Murphy and Zack Biggane flew over the Tipp crossbar.
A sorely needed goal from Ormond arrived in the 41st minute for the holders and, from there, the points of Eoghan Doughan, Cormac Fitzpatrick, Stefan Tobin, who finished with 0-6, and senior star Oisin O’Donoghue helped get them over the line.

In Sixmilebridge, Clare came out on top against Waterford by the narrowest of margin (1-10 to 0-12) to secure a winning start to their campaign.
Having trailed by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, the Banner lads eventually moved ahead by the midway stage of the second-half before Waterford retook the lead and doubled it with a Sean Mackey point with three minutes remaining.
A Fred Hegarty goal a minute later would provide a hammer blow to the visitors however and Ronan Kilroy landed the insurance point afterwards to put a seal on Clare’s late win on opening night.
