
Funeral details have been announced for the much-loved broadcaster Michael Lyster, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 71.
Lyster was the face of RTÉ’s GAA coverage for over 30 years, having presented The Sunday Game from 1984 until his retirement in 2018. The Barnaderg, Co. Galway native began his journalism career with his local newspaper, The Tuam Herald, in 1980 before joining the state broadcaster four years later. He had lived in Cabinteely, Dublin 18 for many years.
His death notice reads: “Peacefully, after a long illness, with his family by his side at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Beloved husband of Anne, adored father of Mark, Rebecca, Ellen and Jack, brother of Anne.
“Sadly missed by his wife, sons and daughters and their respective partners, grandchildren Molly and Tadhg, sister, extended family, friends and colleagues.
“May he Rest in Peace.
“Reposing on Wednesday evening, March 25th strictly from 5pm-7pm in Fanagans Carnegie's Funeral Home, Monkstown, A94 XK28.
“Funeral Ceremony for friends and family only, to celebrate Michael’s life will take place at 4pm on Thursday afternoon, March 26th in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium, D6W HY28.

“The family would like to thank all the staff of the ICU at St. Vincent’s University Hospital for all their care and compassion. Donations in lieu of flowers to Irish Heart Foundation in Memory of Michael Lyster.”
