Kiltale 1-18 Trim 1-18

Kiltale and Trim remain in contention for a place in the knockout stages of the Senior Hurling Championship after this thrilling round 4 encounter in front of a huge crowd on Pitch 6 at Devenisk Park Dunganny.

Adam Murphy got the scoreboard working for Kiltale. James Murray who was outstanding for the Town side opened their account and by the 10th minute the team in red led 0-4 to 0-3. Murray extended that lead with a trademark side line cut and along with an excellent Ian Bermingham point Declan Murray’s men opened up a 0-6 to 0-3 lead. Indeed Trim could have been further ahead but for some outstanding goalkeeping from Shane McGann.

Jack Regan sent over his second for Kiltale before James Andrews and Murray, with his fifth, increased Trim lead. Kiltale began to dominate possession and the scores followed. Six unanswered points from Murphy (2), Brian O’Reilly,  Hugh O’Sullivan (2) and Regan put them in front 0-10 to 0-8. Another brace from Murray just before the half time whistle left the sides level at the break.

Trim dominated the opening ten minutes of the second half. Andrews, Davy Murtagh and Darragh Heffernan raised white flags as the Town side threatened to take over. Kiltale were having none of it. Regan twice, Jack Bannon and Mark O’Sullivan had the game all square again. 

As the pace and intensity of the game gathered referee Sean Stack had both sides reduced to 14 players for two separate incidents. Mark O’Sullivan was first to see red and a couple of minutes later Pa Ryan followed him to the sideline.

Back to the game. Regan put Kiltale in front. Conor Quigley and Alan Douglas responded for Trim. With ten minutes remaining James Kelly and Regan had the game tied up at 0-17 each. Substitute Peter Durnin, as he has done so many times in the past, was first to react to a Regan shot and finish the ball to the Trim net. Regan added another point and Kiltale looked set for an important win. Murray had other ideas. He sent over his first score of the half from a free and as the game entered injury time blasted a close in free to the back of the Kiltale net to tie up a thrilling encounter for the last time.

Kiltale take on Na Fianna in round 5, Trim play Ratoath in a winner takes all encounter.
