Áine McDonagh became the AFLW’s all-time leading Irish goalkicker last weekend.
The former Galway ladies football star scored her 56th goal in Hawthorn’s 32-point victory over Port Adelaide to surpass the previous record held by Cora Staunton.
The reigning Hawthorn Best & Fairest winner kicked three majors to complement her 11 disposals, six score involvements, four tackles, four marks and four intercept possessions. Hailing from Moycullen, McDonagh is coming off the back of a career-best season in 2025 when she finished as the Hawk’s leading goalkicker with 22 goals.
She signed for the Hawks in 2022, joining fellow Irish players Aileen Gilroy as well as Conor Nash and Fionn O'Hara in the men's program. Gilroy has since retired from Aussie Rules, while O'Hara returned to play for Westmeath last year.
