Rathmolyon 1-9 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-8

After losing out to Kilskyre/Moylagh in last year's final Rathmolyon secured their place in another Meath Intermediate Hurling Championship decider with this four point win over Donaghmore Ashbourne at a very wet Lomans Park Trim. 

Brian Gilsenan’s men have been the form team in the group stages with four wins from four outings.

The majority of the scores came in the opening half. Martin Forde opened the winners account. Louis McIvor hit back with a brace for Donaghmore Ashbourne and by the end of the first quarter the Moors were 0-4 to 0-2 up. McIvor landed another brace to double his sides lead before Kevin Mullingan brought Rathmolyon back into the game with a goal. Brian Gilsenan’s men finished the half with points from Gary Doherty, Daniel Callaghan and Mulligan and go in at the break 1-6 to 0-7 in front.

The second half was played in a downpour and both sides struggled to cope with the conditions. Scores were at a premium. Vinny Ward extended Rathmolyon’s lead. Mulligan and Ward again opened up a five point advantage with eight minutes remaining. Donaghmore Ashbourne had to wait until the 58th minute for their first score of the half, McIvor cutting the lead to four. Despite dominating the remainder the Rathmolyon defence stood firm against a goal onslaught and held on for another win.
