Tough weather conditions on a perfect pitch were the order of the day in Grangegodden for this fourth-round fixture, as O’Mahony’s looked for a win that would keep their challenge for a semi-final spot alive, while Kilskyre/Moylagh were aiming to maintain top spot in the Senior B Championship.

O’Mahony’s got off to the brighter start, registering the first two points on the board as a result of two quick turnovers in the opening five minutes, before Kilskyre/Moylagh got their first score — a free converted by Willie McGrath. For the next ten minutes, it was nip and tuck as both sides exchanged points.

The score of the day came from Tom Shine, with a line ball struck from a tight angle, which was followed by points from O’Higgins, McGrath, and Cooke. To further compound their lead, debutant Luke Harte pounced for a goal following an attack that began with goalkeeper Charlie Usher, who launched the ball from his own 65 for the poacher Harte to take advantage of a loose ball. Three consecutive points in the last three minutes of the first half from Man of the Match Fergal Flynn left Kilskyre/Moylagh with a deserved 1-12 to 0-08 lead at half-time.

The second half was more of the same, with O’Mahony’s getting the opening two points from play — something Kilskyre/Moylagh will need to look at, given their slow starts in both halves and in previous rounds. McGrath kept the scoreboard ticking over with frees, along with points from play by himself, Tom Shine, and Paul Hennessy, before substitute Sean Tunney rounded off the scoring with a sweet over-the-shoulder effort to close out the match.

An O’Mahony’s sending-off midway through the second half for a wild pull on Shine probably wiped out any chance of a comeback. Kilskyre/Moylagh will be disappointed they did not make better use of the extra man, but job done — and, with results elsewhere going their way, Kilskyre/Moylagh secured top spot and went straight through to the final on October 10th.
