A damp night in Ashbourne made for a difficult task for the travelling contingent, and against a youthful Donaghmore/Ashbourne side with strength in numbers, it was always going to be an uphill battle — and so it proved.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne had young hurlers all over the pitch, clear evidence of the good work being done at underage level. It is something Kilskyre/Moylagh will need to focus on if their second team is to start troubling sides at this level.

There were a few positives for Kilskyre/Moylagh, with younger players Ryan Corcoran, Cillian Fanning, and James McDonald all getting scores from play. However, it was probably veteran Emmett Hallinan, introduced for the final fifteen minutes, who produced the score of the match with a rifled shot past the Donaghmore/Ashbourne goalkeeper to add some respectability to the scoreboard.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne now go into the final looking like a team with real purpose. Best of luck to them.
