Clann na nGael 1-18 Dunboyne 2-14

Clann na nGael kept their hopes of a place in the knockout stages of the Intermediate Hurling Championship alive with this minimum win over Dunboyne in wet conditions at Lomans Park Trim.

The winners made a great start and were 1-7 to 0-2 in front at the end of the opening quarter. A brace from the impressive Josh McGrath along with one from Luke Ennis was followed by the games opening goal courtesy of Conor McGovern. Dunboyne battled their way back into the game and by the break had narrowed the lead to three, 1-10 to 1-7, Eoghan McCormack with their goal before the short whistle.

St. Peters dominated the third quarter. Sean Cregan (2), McCormack and James Lonergan pointed before McCormack was in for his second major and Dunboyne led 2-11 to 1-12. Niall Smyth, Conor Murphy and Liam Callanan pushed that lead out to 2-14 to 1-13 and the Athboy/Rathcairn side looked in trouble. 

The introduction of Eamonn O Donnchadha began to pay dividends. Back from injury the talented attacker opened his account with ten minutes remaining. Joe and Luke Ennis made it a one point game and before Mark O’Reilly blew the full time whistle O Donnchadha had added a brace to give his team a much needed victory.
