Kilmainham 2-11, Nobber 3-18 

Our second team had a home tie to Nobber in round 2 of the championship on Saturday 29th August 2026. Both teams were scrambling around to make sure that they had enough players to field to try and get more football for their players. Well done to all players from both clubs for togging out to ensure that we had a game of football for both teams. A win would have seen us into a semi-final; now we must await our fate. A minute's silence was impeccably observed by both teams for local lad TJ McDonnell, who sadly lost his life last week. 

Kilmainham were missing a few players from round 1 and Nobber took full advantage as they came racing out of the blocks. They converted a free and then hit a goal as Kilmainham were slow to settle. It was clear from early on that Nobber had some lively forwards that would be hard to contain. Scott Lynch got us up and running with a two pointer. Nobber then hit the next 5 points in a row. They were dominating midfield. They had a really good mix of youth and experience, and it was beginning to tell. Kilmainham were trying to hang in the game. A strong 15 minutes before half-time got us back in the match. Scott Lynch kicked another brilliant two pointer. Richie Brady then palmed the ball to the Nobber net after a brilliant run by Andy Arkins through the middle. Lynch followed this up with another 3 points as we headed for half-time. Nobber were the better team, but Kilmainham as they always do continued to fight with a good attitude. 

Half-time score: Kilmainham 1-7, Nobber 1-10. 

The second half continued similar to the first half with Nobber kicking the first two scores. They followed this up with their second and third goals to put themselves in full control. Kilmainham kept going and refused to throw in the towel. Paul Daly and Fergal Black were having great games in the backs trying to keep Nobber at bay. Too many mistakes, where bad handling and kicking away possession at key times was costing our lads a way back into the match. Scott Lynch kicked another super two-pointer. Midfielder Andy Arkins decided that he would have some of that, and he landed an outrageous two-pointer from play. Kilmainham would not go away. Scott Lynch then finished off a lovely team move with a goal. This capped a brilliant individual performance for him. Hitting 1-9 in total over the hour. Sean Smith, Chris Bellos and Daniel Newman made their entry for the last 15 minutes. Daniel Newman Newman and Chris Bellos making their championship debuts for the club! Brian Black got the dreaded call to go back on as Johnny Quinlan made way! Overall, the lads can have no complaints about the end result. Nobber were the better team, but the lads gave it everything and left everything on the pitch. The fact that we can field two teams is a real testament to the good work being done in the club, particularly by manager Mickey Newman making sure that we could field. With plenty to look forward to in the club in the future.
