St Marys 4-16 St Paul’s 2-4 

St Marys opened their Division 7 Championship account with a win against St Pauls on Thursday evening in Donore. 

The final score was slightly flattering to the hosts, as heading into the final quarter they were only 2 points to the good before a late flurry of 3-7 without reply. 

Before the game a few SOS calls were put out due to low numbers, and Marys managed to summon 17 bodies together for the game, with the average age just that little bit higher than the previous weeks Junior A game. 

The first half was a tight affair, Kyle McKeown opened Marys account with a 45, with scores from Ruairi Condra, Paddy Owens and the returning Liam O’Neill Sheridan, making his first appearance since an ACL injury in May 2025. In this time Paul’s also struck for 2-1, with both goals coming from James Rattigan. There was a lot of errors given the inclement conditions, but Marys worked hard to regain the lead coming into half time, further scores from Condra, Robbie Callaghan and Liamo before Owens struck for a well taken goal on half time, showing no ill effects from the Ironman he took part just 4 days previous. 

The start of the second half was closely fought, the sides exchanging scores with Owens and Callaghan on target for the Marys. Paul’s pushed to narrow the gap before James Lynch finished low to the net to get the second goal for Marys. This opened the floodgates and the scores started to flow for the home side. Liamo struck for an emphatic finish to the back of the net, with three quickfire Nicky Gogan points sandwiched in between. Callaghan added a free before late substitute Michael Everard, finding himself in the very unfamiliar position of corner forward, added a point and well taken finish in off the frame of the goal with the last action of the game. 

A good win for St Marys, with the next round against Cortown in two weeks time.
