Kildalkey 2-22 Na Fianna 0-15
After 2 losses to Kiltale and Trim Kildalkey really needed a win against Na Fianna on Friday night in Dunganny and came home happy with the 2 points in the bag .
The cut throat nature of the SHC means any slip ups and not only are you in danger of not getting to the knockout stages but you could find yourself in real danger of relegation to senior B so there was a huge amount at stake for both teams .
The first quarter saw both sides trading points. Nicky Potterton Gary Kelly Luke Rickard with 2 Brin Kelly Paddy Barnwell and Paddy Conneely got the Kildalkey points but Na Fianna were hitting back until Conneely got an important goal to leave the blues leading 1-9 to 0-7 at the break .
Cian Colhoun got Kildalkey off the mark after a minute of the restart and a flurry of points from Potterton, Barnwell, Kelvin Lynch and Conneely put the Village in control. Michael Heffernan scored five brilliant points to keep Na Fianna in the game but with eight minutes remaining and daylight fading Potterton scored a brilliant individual goal. Gaining possession in midfield he ran through the middle before batting the ball to the net. Niall McNally hit a boomer from his own half and Potterton scored the last from play to bring his tally to 1-10.
It was Kildalkey’s night and team management and supporters left Dunganny happy after a frustrating start to the championship.
