Moynalvey 1-15 Navan O'Mahonys 1-07

Navan O’Mahony’s must fight another day to secure their status at senior level following today’s defeat to a Cillian O’Sulivan-inspired Moynalvey side in Trim. It was a close encounter until the final quarter, when Moynalvey pulled out of reach of the Navan side.

A converted free from Moynalvey was the opening score of the game after two minutes. Following the resulting kickout, Aodhán Mallon weaved through the Moynalvey defence to face the keeper. A powerful shot reflected off the post and deflected off corner forward Evan Coffey to the back of the net.

Despite several missed chances by both sides, Moynalvey managed to keep the scoreboard ticking and responded to the goal with two points from play and a converted free. By the first water break, they lead by four points to O’Mahony’s goal.

Jake Regan pointed twice from a 45 and a free to give O’Mahony’s the lead by the narrowest of margins with twenty-seven minutes played. A determined Moynalvey kept the focus and managed two points from play before the half time whistle.

Half Time score: Moynalvey 0-06 Navan O'Mahonys 1-02

Eoin Joyce opened up the scoring in the second half with a point from play, but this was soon cancelled by two points from Moynalvey. A brief purple patch for Navan O’Mahony’s started when midfielder Conor Finnegan came into possession fifty yards from goal. A seriously well-taken point inspired his team and was followed by two pointed frees from full forward Brian O’Hanlon, leaving the sides level.

Once again, Moynalvey managed to edge in front just before the break and lead by two points at the second water break. Following on from Sam Formosa replacing Alan Forde, Navan O’Mahony’s made three changes at the second water break with Colm Honan, Cormac McGuinness and Shane Gillespie all entering the field of play.

The game was still in contention when a Moynalvey ball dropped into the hands of a Moynalvey player right in front of goal, leaving netminder Honan with very little possibility of saving it.  There was no coming back from this for Navan O’Mahony’s with eight points the final margin of victory.

Moynalvey are safe in the knowledge they will be playing senior football in 2022 while Navan O’Mahony’s must fight another day against the losers of Skryne and Curraha
