Two great Meath Gaels honoured at Pairc Tailteann

The curtain came down on the 2020 Meath Premier football championship yesterday when Donaghmore Ashbourne defeated O’Mahonys in the Division 8 final at Pairc Tailteann. The day before Meath Hill beat Ballinlough in the Division 7 decider.

Both occasions saw the presentation of inaugural cups with family members in attendance.

Meath Hill captain Emmett Matthews received the Oliver Harding Cup while Donaghmore Ashbourne’s James Flavin was presented with the Jack Devine Cup.

Oliver Harding passed away in 2018. A member of the junior championship winning team of 1952, Oliver gave a lifetime of dedicated service to the club and Meath GAA and, in a statement, the club described him as "one of the great Gaels of Slane and Meath GAA".

Jack Devine was a  recipient of a Meath Sean Gael Award (2001) and Meath GAA’s Hall of Fame award in 2011, Jack passed away on Christmas Eve 2019 at the old age of 97. He served Dunderry GAA club in a variety of positions and was best known as the club’s long-serving and efficient PRO, having been involved in the Boyerstown GAA club originally. He was an ever-present at Royal County games the length and breadth of the country.
