The Late Tom Dillon

The late Tom Dillon

Sorry to report the passing of another of the legends who powered the outstanding Syddan team of the 1950's.

Yesterday, Wednesday November 11th, Tom Dillon, a loved member of a great GAA family and a dynasty which has contributed so much to Meath GAA over the decades, passed to his eternal rest.

Tom was a Meath Juvenile Championship winner in 1946 and a key player on the 1952 Meath minor team ousted by Dublin in the Leinster Championship.

Tom is pictured 5th from right, back row, on the Syddan team that won the 1956 SFC final

1956 was a historic year for Tom Dillon and the Syddan club as their very own and much coveted Keegan Cup made its only journey north to Lobinstown and surrounds. Skryne were just pipped, 3-4 to 2-6, in an exciting County Senior final.

The fast and skilful Dillon stood out in his wing back position. Indeed so impessive was Tom over that campaign that he came to the attention of the Meath selectors.

Tom Dillon was a county regular in the 1956/57 NFL run that followed and this in turn brought him under the eye of the Leinster Railway Cup management team.

Tom Dillon had many successes in the Greyhound World

Unfortunately a bad snow storm cancelled the Leinster trial which Tom was asked to attend.

Greyhounds was another great love of Tom Dillon's. A very successful trainer he made a visit to the winners podium on many an occasion in this sport.

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
