JFC C: Michaels no match for Ratoath

St. Michaels 2-06, Ratoath 7-10

Ratoath ran out comfortable winners of this opening round Junior C football fixture played in Walterstown against St Michaels. 

Playing against the wind in the first half Ollie Byrne's charges nevertheless stuck to the task and worked the ball extremely well from defence to attack and so dominated the half registering 3 goals to lead 3-6 to 0-3 at the interval.

The second half saw Ratoath consolidate their lead and plunder 4 more goals before the finish. St Michael's to their credit continued to battle and scored 2 goals themselves but  an emphatic win nonetheless for the men from the South East of the county. Honourable mention goes to Tom Fadden, known more for his hurling prowess, but who ended up with a personal tally of 4-2. Now that the bar has been set. Hurling manager, David O'Reilly now wants more of the same off Tom when the hurlers resume their campaign! A big shout also to Sean Johnson who turned 18 on Saturday and showed no ill effects scoring 2-1

St. Michaels Report

St. Michaels 2-06, Ratoath 7-10

Seven goals were the decisive scores for Ratoath in this first round match in Walterstown on Sunday afternoon with their opener coming after just 45 seconds.

St. Michaels playing with the benefit of a strong wind to their backs opened their scoring with a point from Ben Reilly after five minutes. Ratoath added a further 1-1 before top scorer for the losers Patrick Tobin added his opening point at the end of the first quarter. Ratoath replied immediately with their third major but they failed to score again in the second quarter. Tobin split the posts for a second time before having to go off to have a facial injury attended to and on his return his first task was to face Eoin Doody in the Ratoath goals from the penalty spot which was awarded for a foot-block. Tobin expertly placed the ball low in the bottom corner of the Ratoath net to reduce the deficit to four points at the break 1-3 to 3-1.          

From the restart Ratoath accelerated into a higher gear and had 2-2 on the board before Lee Morris opened the St. Michaels second half account with a point on the 40th minute. Tobin completed his tally on 47 minutes and substitute Kevin Cassidy added a further 1-1 to complete the St. Michaels scoring however Ratoath had no difficulty in picking off their scores adding a further 2-6 for a convincing win.
