Donegal v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ok, this is the main thread on Donegal v Dublin. Not about who is dirtier or who should be ashamed for antics on the pitch. Please stick to the topic, talk about the game and the teams dont let it turn into another slagging match. By all means set up separate threads to do so but keep to the topic at hand which is the game.

Thank you,
Admin.

And it wouldn't mean as much to me if I where from Donegal.

Dublin are yet to be tested which is worrying in some ways. However Donegal haven't played anyone of note yet either. I think Donegal were a little complacent yesterday and nearly paid the price. In the end though they did enough to get through as all good teams do.

You'd expect Donegal to improve dramatically for the next day and have a plan in place to take on Dublin.

The Dubs were quite sloppy at times yesterday, as they have been all year, and will need a massive improvement to get to the All-Ireland final imo.

Based on the last two years Donegal haven't got a forward who is in the top ten in the country. That includes Murphy.

Dublin by 6 - 10.

Donegal wil knock lumps out of them and try every cynical ploy in the book but they won't score more than 5 points from play.Dubs direct running will pay off into the second half.

totally agree with you daytona murphy wouldn't get a game for dublin to slow

Muckcross, I like you as a poster - one of those who can see the other point of view and give a humorous take even at your own and Donegal's expense - so I won't pursue it! I genuinely like watching Donegal. Thought they looked flakey yesterday but Armagh are better than people give them credit for. Anyway, next three weeks shall be fun :-)

hurling,
I have made many attempts to answer your post, but without success. Thanks for the kind words.

Always have a laugh at some of the posts on here. Dub posters talk about embarrsment. Yeah bite gate number 3, playing all games in same venue, money being pumped into game in capital for years, media bias. Winning SAM just wouldnt mean the same for me if I were from Dublin, considering the odds are always stacked in their favour. Now you have a fine team but you wouldnt be în thîs position but for a lot a if the odds were evened up a tad IMO.

Get the excuses in early there. Good lad. It's still 15 v 15 the last I heard. Dublin lads getting up at the crack of dawn busting a gut several times a week. Hard, hard training, huge voluntary effort at grassroots level. You get out what you put in but sometimes you just need to put your hand up and admit you are not good enough. The dubs had to do it plenty of times in the noughties and despite the bile that was spat in our direction we kept pushing and came out of the whole process with a very good team. A lesson in what you can achieve with persistence and hard work. No amount of 'media bias' (that's a laugh), playing in same venue, money pumped in (who generates this money anyway) can deliver you a team of the calibre of this Dublin team. It's down to hard work, dedication and natural ability.

Calling it as I see it to be honest man.

I have been impressed by the Dubs at times but I haven't been as impressed as others I suppose. They're in with a shout but need to improve imo.

I believe they are capable of that improvement though.

You talk a lot of sense and as you said I also thought Donegal were not at their best yesterday As you say I also think they will improve , whether it will be enough to beat Dublin is another thing.
But I won't have this thing about hammering Donegal at all ( fair enough they could as it could be one of those disastrous days that can happen any team ))
IMO Jimmy will have Donegal ready to probably produce one of their best displays of the year. I do believe if Donegal get off to the right start they have every chance of staying with Dublin.

Talking about M Murphy I think a lot of people put it that if Mayo had M Murphy they would have an All Ireland win over the last 3years. I sense you are very bitter about Donegal but if you look at your own county and all the failure they had over the last16 years you could do with a few like MM Cast your mind back to the 2012 final and look at M Murphy's contribution to Donegal

How many times have Kildare failed to Dublin over the last few years or indeed to Meath. ???

Agreed we would have won 1 had we had a guy like him. He made a silly point and then tried to turn it into a different debate about where he plays, backtracking.

We are now at a point where most people including the bookies genuinely don't think Donegal will be able to live with Dublin, and to be honest It is hard to argue against that after the mauling Monaghan took.

The one major thing Donegal have over the likes of the bulk of current Mayo, Kerry, Meath, Monaghan, Tyrone, Kildare players when facing Dublin, Is that most of the Donegal players have recent All Ireland medals. To have reached the top, to have played in a high pressure All Ireland Final and come out on the right side is valuable experience to have.

It will be an Interesting tactical battle I hope.

Connolly ended up with an All Ireland medal - Karl Lacey ended up in casualty - I know which I'd prefer

This game could be the perfect ambush for us if we don't bring our best performance of the year. JMCG will relish this and if Donegal players perform to their abilty we will need 100% focus.

if you hate it more than anything else clondalkin then just say it instead of making needless digs at other counties when players from your own county have also done the same
