Eg Daithi Burke in Galway plays football with Corofin and hurling with Turloughmore. Most hurlers with Turloughmore who play football would play with Claregalway but Daithi father used to play with Corofin so he chose that club.
Another example here would be Chloe Fox in Camogie. She is from Clongeen but Clongeen did not have a Camogie team when she was underage and so she joined St Martins and played with them all the way up

Sorry, I made a bit of a hames of yesterday's attempted explanation. In general, it's as camánoutathat explains here.
If your "home" club is single code, you can play the other code as an isolated player with a dual club. That's what allows that player from Rathnure to continue to hurl with Rathnure while playing football for the Duffry.
But when the Vols were dual, anybody who first registered with them as their "home" club couldn't then seek permission to hurl for the Harriers, since their "home" club (Vols) was already providing hurling.
Anybody who first registered with Harriers could still seek permission to play football with Vols as an isolated player. But it wasn't as simple as saying "everybody just register with Harriers first, then", because no club can have more than two isolated players in a year. Meant that if three or more Harriers hurlers also wanted to be Vols footballers, at least one of them would have been disappointed.
And it was even murkier because of how Vols and Harriers are basically the same catchment area and whether the isolated player rule should even apply in the first place. As I mentioned, I was abroad at the time, and never knew the whole ins and outs of it. But Vols being dual was only a short-lived thing anyway, and all these things were much of the reason why.

Who's the original Wexford town club and was there just fallen out and splinter clubs made off of one club or was it more just areas that have have taken in by the growth of the town over the years where now they are all town clubs?

So could any player from a single code club . Go to any other club as an isolated players in the other code. If they had nt played for a different club in the other code previously .

From the GAA bible, Volunteers were the kingpins of Wexford football in the 1950, winning multiple titles. Faythe Harriers won a football title but then concentrated on hurling. St Joseph's and Sarsfields became stronger and now Maudlintown are coming strong, however heavily beaten today by Cloughbawn. That's St martins and Cloughbawn into football semi finals. My favourites to win senior and intermediate hurling. As they say a rising tide lifts all boats.

How many dual players have St Martins and Shels - St Martins only had a few last year in their intermediate win. Do people reckon this hectic schedule will bite them as things start to warm up no in hurling / football? Big win for Cloughbawn too and they will fancy their chances in the semi final against Startlights.

Here is the team that beat Horeswood last year- Ryan Sinnott; Jamie Berry, Michael Codd, Eoin O'Leary; Conor Firman (0-1), Philip Dempsey, David Codd; Ben Maddock, Darren Codd (2-2, 1-0 pen., 0-1 free); Diarmuid O'Leary, Luke Kavanagh (0-1), Joe Barrett (0-1); Oisín Waters (0-3 frees), Dáithí Waters (0-1), Jake Firman (1-0). Sub. - Ben Stafford (0-1) for O. Waters (59). Most of these played Senior hurling too, and Barry O'Connor, Kyle Firman, Sam Audsley and Jack O'Connor have all played Senior Football and Hurling this year in addition to the dual players on that teamsheet. This the team that beat the Harriers this year- Callum Quirke; Eoin O'Leary, Conor Firman (capt.), Joe Barrett; Sam Audsley, Aaron Maddock, Daithí Waters; David Codd, Diarmuid O'Leary (0-4); Darren Codd, Jack O'Connor (0-6, 1 '65), Jake Firman (0-3); Mikey Coleman, Ben Stafford (0-8, 7 frees, 1 '65), Luke Kavanagh (2-0). And shouldn't forget that St. Martin's actually had three teams in football quarter-finals at the weekend.
Just because a senior hurler doesn't also line out with the senior footballers wouldn't mean he's not a dual player. He could have been playing football in either of the two lower grades instead.

I didn't realise that about Quigley, and that's an interesting one. The bye-law about isolated players says: A Player's application must initially be to a neighbouring club. However, in the event of the neighbouring club/clubs not being in a position to accommodate such a request the option shall be open to them for application to another club within the county.
Considering he would have had to cross Monageer-Boolavogue territory to get from Marshalstown to Oulart, and possibly had to cross Rapparees territory too (depending on what road he took), I wonder on what grounds they weren't "in a position to accommodate such a request" ?
Or why he wasn't advised then to apply to some other neighbouring club instead? For example, Marshalstown and Duffry Rovers would be a more "natural" link than Marshalstown and Oulart.

We had a player last year who ended up not playing minor Football at all because of that rule. He was at school in Good Counsel, was previously on the u16 Football Development Squad, and wanted to play for Horeswood as his friends at school were from there, but because they were not a neighbouring club his request was denied.

From what i recall the local clubs that entered U21 teams said they couldn't 'accomodate' him and that is why he went to Oulart. Isolated players long term are of little benefit to a club - they can be a short sighted approach as it inevitably means that some other player within the club will be dropped

@Viking66 - Did you not have a minor team of your own last year? Even as Taghmore Gaels or some other combination?
Am guessing not, if this lad was looking to avail of the "isolated player" rule. But even so, sounds to me like the rule was applied properly in this case. I reckon that to get from Taghmon to Horeswood, you'd be passing through the catchment area of at least two other clubs. Depending on how exactly you travelled, you'd surely hit least two of Clongeen, Adamstown, Gusserane, and Rathgarogue-Cushinstown.
What I don't understand is how it appears the rule wasn't as strictly enforced in the Marshalstown/Oulart case.
Did you have other players of that age last year take up the "isolated player" facility, and if so, what clubs did they join with?
