Winning this weekend is all that matters for now . I too cant see us beating both KK and Galway to be honest but we have to at least give it a right go. If we win this weekend and can replicate a good performance against Carlow there is a scenario where we can go through on 5 points on score difference if all other results go as predicted.

I'm far from upset! But you seem to have missed my point. If you don't believe you can win then you won't win. It really is that simple. Of course you can still lose even if you believed you were going to win. But that's sport for you. If I was to guess I'd say the Wexford players believed they were going to win as normal time finished in both the last 2 games. But we didn't. Looking ahead to the next game I believe we can win. You don't seem to. Of course its not really that important what we believe. But it is important that the players know they can win. And I'd say they do. They have beaten Galway before. And drawn with them. And lost to them. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15749 - 01/05/2024 15:22:47 2542276 Link 0 |
I tend to agree, it feels a bit like people are huffing copium big time. We haven't beat Galway since the round robin began and nothing in our form says we're going to buck that trend this time. I could be wrong and stranger things have happened (Cork getting through in 2022). I'll be there just like I am the majority of the games all year, praying for what seems like a minor miracle as things stand. Fulgrim (Wexford) - Posts: 267 - 01/05/2024 15:23:45 2542277 Link 0 |
They are all knockout games now. Real hurling.

We as supporters have the luxury of being objective

You can't 100 say that no munster team would lose to Dublin or Antrim. More than likely they would win bit they also could be caught on an off day in parnell Park or Belfast. It's not guaranteed wex82 (Wexford) - Posts: 214 - 01/05/2024 18:54:00 2542323 Link 0 |
I disagree. Wexford had already stayed up and weren't bothered with that game. They were missing so many players. Yes they were shocking bit had drew with Klkenny and Clare and beat Waterford who now turned ye over? wex82 (Wexford) - Posts: 214 - 01/05/2024 19:16:53 2542328 Link 0 |
Following Wexford is really painful - 90% pain. And every year we think it might be different and it rarely is. The further we get the bigger the pain. Every year we think we've seen it all and they come up with new ways to break our heats Just when we are ready to give up they show us something and we get excited again. Maybe Saturday will be that day. Yellow (Wexford) - Posts: 589 - 01/05/2024 23:06:46 2542355 Link 0 |
Slightly harsh but off the top of the head his last brilliant game was v Galway in 2022, wouldn't have drew that game without him and did really well as a sub last year v Dublin but agree with the general sentiment that his good showings are far too rare considering his ability.

TBF on the showing of the last 2 weekends I don't think you could say we will beat Galway and haven't read 1 person saying it here. Saying we can win is different and I'm in that camp, if we play like we did the last 2 weeks we won't but that's the beauty of sport, Waterford were outsiders v Cork people already writing off Davy's managerial stint down there, Antrim were big outsiders but fully deserved their win. Sport isn't meant to always be predictable and the 1 consistent thing with us the last 2-3 years is our inconsistency.

Just on your consistent reference of Kilkenny v Antrim you do realise Antrim rested 4 players for that game including Keelan Molloy and James Mcnaughton, what showed their interest in that game was when their goalie got black carded before half time they didn't bother bringing him back on when the 10 mins were up. I've listened to plenty of podcasts this week but the most revealing comment was Jacqui Hurley on the RTE podcast on Monday mentioned chatting to Neil McManus in RTE on Sunday, he basically said Antrim totally focused in on Wexford game and Kilkenny was essentially an afterthought, it was risky and if it went wrong they would have been criticised and a narrative of you can't turn it on and off like a tap would be thrown around but the winning team always writes the narrative at the end. Sambo probably the most passionate hurling man in Ulster basically said it on a couple of shows this week, Antrim have no belief coming up against Kilkenny and Galway, with how they approached the league and Kilkenny game it obvious they've decided the Wexford, Dublin and Carlow games will define their year. Would totally ruin it. That's the thing that separates us from every other sport. The supporters are not separate from the players. We're literally all one big family. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3586 - 02/05/2024 08:17:12 2542388 Link 0 |
28 years since we had a championship win against Galway. Galway team full of tall lads to really trouble us. Confidence low. Rossi will make 3 changes when at least 6 are needed. Really hope I am wrong but Galway by 7. Yellowhelmet (Australia) - Posts: 140 - 02/05/2024 08:22:20 2542390 Link 0 |
He played well in the Park that day but wasn't brilliant exactly. He won a few balls and took his goal well but only scored 1-2. Good but not exactly brilliant. I know I'm probably a bit harder on Mac than some other players but mainly that's because he had the potential to be a Tony Doran or Nicky Rackard type figure in Wexford Hurling lore. Instead he's a bit like Jacko, another lad with great unfulfilled potential. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15749 - 02/05/2024 09:16:10 2542394 Link 0 |
Just on that first stat we only played them once in the 1st 20 years of that period. We didn't play them at all for 14 years after 96. We should've beaten them in 2019, and maybe would've beaten them in 2022 if the game had of gone on a little longer, we had all the momentum. Last year we started lads who were walking wounded, and were missing Chin and Damien Reck altogether. We were really poor altogether in 2020. If we turn up we could win well. If we don't we will get hammered. I don't think it will be a close game odd though that might sound. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15749 - 02/05/2024 09:21:17 2542397 Link 0 |
Yeah An Antrim lad said to me last weekend that they had a training camp where they pretty much focussed fully on the Wexford game and ignored the KK game knowing that they now have a two week lead into Dublin game. Carlow will do the same and I am sure thay are 100% focussed on us. We did not have that luxury as our aim was a Leinster final appearance. I think the late blow agianst Dublin really killed our lads. Call it careless or bad luck but the knock on effect was seen against Antrim and now has left us with low confidence. wexfordwin (Wexford) - Posts: 191 - 02/05/2024 09:22:30 2542398 Link 0 |
Looking forward to the team announcement. I'm hoping we name what we are starting with none of this dummy team nonsense and changes before throw in. Give supporters and players confidence this is the starting 15 that we believe can go and beat Galway Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 588 - 02/05/2024 10:53:05 2542419 Link 0 |
That's the frustration with me too, my earliest memories of GAA are the mid 90's and he remains the best underage player I've seen come through in Wexford but we've seen that form too sporadically at adult level.
