Replying To CiarraiMick:  "There were some great games in this years championship but alot of bad ones too. The final was a great game of ball. At one stage early in the second half there were 10 points kicked from play (5 each for Kerry and Galway). However that's unusual nowadays. The keep ball can be a hard watch and sometimes watching a team attack about 30 yards from goal and then ten seconds later it back in their own fb line. I think some changes might improve the game as a spectacle. Also in hurling the sliotar is so light now the players are shooting from their own fb line. The old battles between full forward and full back are gone and we never see doubling on the ball now like the great Jimmy Barry Murphy or Steve Mahon of Galway. Yes players are more skilful now but I still think the games need some changes."
It's risky but if one team kept their forwards up front would this mean the defenders have to stay back. Especially in club football I can't figure out why sometimes the best forward is back doing his duty in a planned setup.

It'd be fine for O'Rourke; great grassland in Meath. However, spare a thought for poor Pat and Kerry. That there's not one stud farm in the entire county tells you all you need to know about the quality of the pasture down there!

Yes Saynothing it would definately be interesting and see who would blink first but you are right in that it should be done in club level anyway.I recall in 2012 All ireland semi final v Donegal Cork under Conor Counihan started with seven forwards. It was a brave call and did nt work out fully but fair play to Counihan for trying.

Agree with you there TR. There are people who can provide good analysis from other and smaller counties, for the championships.

Seven forwards means 14 players in the attacking space which is defending manager's dream, defenders hate spaces, more bodies in the attacking zone makes defending easier.

Tomsmith here
I dont know where the seven forwards thing comes from.
You have 6 forwards and if the rule said 5 to be inside the 50 yard line it would mean 5 backs.
Take a Gaa field agerage width is 90 yards wide
So the is 90 x 50 yards of playing space for 5 forwards ie 4500 sq yards

So no issue with space

I'm surprised Pat Spillane didnt include getting rid of the forward mark which in my opinion is a joke. A free kick at the goals for just catching a ball.

Tell me this and tell me no more, does a defender get a mark for catching the ball ahead of the forward? I dont think he does, he just gets sledged by the forward. A bit unfair. Defending is a skill of the game too.

Defender also entitled to call a mark.
