Anyone going to say who the supposed manager is? Please.

This should be announced immediately if it's been agreed. Why wait? The club scene needs a boost, need energy and this would help!

Am not willing to mention any names here, in case it all goes pear-shaped. And yes, I know that maybe makes me look like certain people in the past who claimed to know such things but never said anything specific either.

I believe reason for any delay in announcement is that he wants his full backroom team in place first, and that there are still negotiations going on with one or two people there.

Ah. I see somebody else has mentioned the name anyway!

Ok - fair enough I would also have suspected that this was the person you were referring to as I would say he is the only realistic internal candidate at this stage

The worst-kept secret is confirmed anyway and Hegarty is in. At least he'll have a very good knowledge of the local scene, and has plenty of games to scout for talent. Much rather this sort of appointment than an outside mercenary, and we know he'll have the best interests of the game at heart.

Best of luck to John Hegarty and his back room team. He seems like a very progressive, no-nonsense type of guy. It'd be good to see Wexford doing well again in football; were always a good attacking team when at their best.

It'd be good to see Wexford hurlers do better, too.

All official. Good luck to him and his team. Hopefully he can build a squad and get Wexford football more popular in the county again.

Is there many out there that people think deserved to be in it that Shane Roach didn't already have in it? I know some on here had questions around the team selection but they were still involved. It may be a question of how much more he can do with the players available.

Tbh most of the players who would be an addition are playing, or hoping to play, intercounty hurling. Need young lads to break through.

I firmly believe that John Hegarty will prove to be a wise and good appointment.
The positives
He knows the local scene inside out.
He will probably attract players that wouldn't commit before.
He's bound to develop a game plan that the players will buy into and improve the playing style.
If he brings in the right backroom team they will work on our leaky defensive tactics.
Hopefully he can drag us out of the bargain basement, which is the 4th division.
He has played for Wexford over 100 times and was a nippy accurate forward in his day.
He has been successful at club level. Winning, as manager with Shells the county final last year.
He is still young and I'm sure will have plenty of new ideas to bring the team on from where they are at now.
All the above will ultimately lead to a greater interest in Wexford football and lead to more people attending games. Both at club and intercounty games.
Of course all of the above may or may not happen but I think it's possible if he gets the right support from the county board, his backroom team ( must include good and proven coaches) and us long sufferings fans.
Negatives
He's new to intrcounty management.
Does he have the knowhow to lmprove the standard of football amongst the squad?
Can he get the team to be competitive when playing against higher ranked teams should we meet them in the championship?
Will he get the best out of the players and be a good communicator?
I sincerely wish him well an hopefully he can give the football fraternity a much needed lift.

At this early stage if we could get promoted from div4 it would be a massive step. And yes it would be good to see the hurlers do better. Another AISF and/or a Leinster title would be realistic targets next year.

Think you are wronging Roche a little with this post. Our playing style was fairly entertaining but we left ourselves too open for sucker punches, usually goals on the counter. This cost us in most of the League games we lost that I saw the last couple years. Also we had a good record against higher ranked teams except for Dublin. A 100% record in Leinster the last couple years in fact.
