Sinn Féin have been part of running the north - something that was never part of any republican plan i ever heard of, but there you go - for the guts of 20 years. They were part of probably the worst ever city council in Dublin for 5 years, the consequences of which are still not fully visible. That's enough for me. Not to mention the fact that the only way they will ever get into power is either through a coalition with one of the parties you hate, or with the support of actual communists who will turn the country into Kampuchea circa 1976. We are not going to have a SF gov anytime soon, FF/FG will not go in with them and as a junior partner, bit like the DUP in the wee north now won't go in and have a SF first minister, now I can't for the life of me understand why anyone votes for the Greens, but we are likely to get the same gov returned again next time even though SF might have the most seats, if nobody is willing to go in to gov with them they'll be in opposition again. I don't think there's much difference between FG/FF, one is as crooked as the other, SF are strong on the reunification question, seem to have good ideas for housing etc. they have some brilliant politicians too and we have 2 of the very best of them here in Donegal, I hope they get into power but it's hard to see how the numbers will stack up in reality. There are more than 40,000 people officially homeless in north where they've been part of running for 20 years. housing in Dublin city is dominated by high rise one and two bed build to rents approved while they were biggest party and their spokesperson supports a 25,000 cap on new builds to prevent "climate change"! To get away from heated political debate, who do people fancy for Cheltenham next week? Only bet is on Impaire Et Passe in the Ballymore on Wednesday. If he's anywhere as good as he's looked so far, and with the confidence behind him from the Kilkenny boys, he'll be hard beat. I don't go too deep in politics, just that I would have heard Eoin O'Broin on tv a fair few times and he seems to have ideas on sorting the housing problem, the other crowd have been in power in various forms forever so I think a lot of people would like to see SF get a crack at it and see what they can do. Of course if they go in with FF or FG their policies will be well watered down, I can't see those left wing parties/groups ever getting enough seats to have a leftish wing gov with SF. Also I don't think your point on the wee north is a fair one, the purse strings are controlled from London and they were trying to govern with the Dup, it's not a normal gov in there where they can raise taxes etc to do what they want to do, saying that the 6 counties should be thriving with having full access to both the EU and UK market. I fancy El Fabiolo in the Arkle. In the Champion Hurdle it's hard to look beyond Constitution Hill, maybe an e/w bet on I Like To Move It.
