Replying To TheFlaker:  "Young people are leaving because the nation has lost its soul? That is one of the funniest things i have ever read. They are leaving because of work and a chance to live in class places with super weather for most of the year. Not sure what circles you mix in Barney but the craic must be 90 wherever you grab a pint."
Same circles as put people like you back in their box last week. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Referendums perhaps prove that tge, tide is turning. Young people are leaving not because they can't get a place to live even on a,decent wage but because the nation has lost its soul."
Barney I know many, dozens, of lads who have left Ireland in the last few years. The main reasons cited were-

1- cost of living/housing relative to wages
2- chance to experience living and working in other countries while still young and before children happen along.
3- Weather.

Not one has left because the country has "lost its soul".

I voted NO/NO. You haven't a clue what you are talking about. I have lived abroad for long spells. In America, OZ and Abu Dhabi. I am home now permanently and there is nobody moving abroad for the reason you stated. Laughable stuff.

As a boxer once said its hard to get up and train when you've slept in silk sheets.

I also think being surrounded by misandry (passing itself off as feminism) has had a disheartening effect on many young men."
Aye, mollycoddled young people and of course women are the problem in Ireland. It's definitely not greedy boomers desperately maintaining the status quo

It was kinda funny for a while seeing people fall down that disinformation rabbit hole. It's gotten way out of hand now though. "Wake up sheeple!" types just lapping up any old nonsense from the US/UK culture wars

Well the "wake up sheeple" brigade and the "sure it took Micheal Martin 8 counts to get elected" brigade are, for the most part, the same people. i.e. jump on the first piece of comprehensible 'logic' they can cling to in order to look everywhere but the bathroom mirror to aportion blame for their lot.

The status quo you refer to, I assume, are home owners, landlords, upper-middle-class people. . .
as though any of those 3 ways of life are unattainable to the ordinary Paddy Irishman.

That's a disingenuous reply to my post.

No just landlords. I've never conflated landlords with homeowners. Profiteering from the housing crisis, as 95% of them do, is destroying anyones basic desire to own a home. This isn't a mad conspiracy theory, nothing to do with globalists or woke or communists, just a reality that the social contract is broken and owning a house is now an investment or a status rather than the basic human right of having a home. The minute a working person can't afford a home then all political leanings are irrelevant

95%?
Do you have a source for that figure?
Many private landlords are leaving the market,, or are trying to, it's not unusual to rent at a loss and half of the rent they do receive goes to the taxman.
Tenants, particularly students, often damage properties too leaving the landlord to foot the bill.

But there's absolutely a contradiction there. .
The housing crisis is probably the most prominent political football being kicked around at the moment, by the very political parties who are the biggest objectors to building in this country.

RTE Primetime is on about the 500,000 adults still living with their parents cause they can't find anywhere to rent never mind buy, they won't ever mention a large part of the reason is they are giving all the free housing away to refugees and fake-ugees,
suppose this comment won't get posted either, is it any wonder people are fed up in this state?
preaching to us about driving ev's and saving the planet, meanwhile I see Eamon Ryan has no bother flying to Brazil for St.Patrick's day, one law for them another for us.

My heart is absolutely bleeding for these landlords you speak of. May god be good to them.

The 95% thing is a figure of speech

Airbnb is a much bigger problem than any immigrants. Whether they're to your liking is irrelevant

I don't see a contradiction myself. Can you be more explicit?

I don't think being a landlord is a way of life or something people should aspire to as you seem to. If I suddenly had the means to buy multiple properties, my first thought would not be about how I could exploit people's basic needs for passive income
