Tailteann Cup 2022

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was listening to Marty Morrisey on with Claire Byne earlier talking about the weekends GAA, not a mention of the Tailteann Cup final, he spent as much time talking up the Mayo minors than almost anything else, I detect from Marty that he has no great grá for Galway either.
I agree with them on one point, the All-Ireland Championship is being rushed through at the wrong time of year, too many competing sports happening at the same time, they should put the All Ireland back to August if not September like it always was.
Tailteann Cup?? never heard of it apparently.

I hope Cavan supporters and Westmeath supporters enjoy their trip to Croke Park. A Sam Maguire 16 group stage spot awaits the winner. May the best team win!

Oh my, some people seem to be obsessed with my thoughts and musings. Living rent free lads. Fyi, I was away a few weeks ago, and didn't see those posts until now until the thread got bumped up. You all know my thoughts anyway, we'd only be going around in circles. Mad how you give out about my postings, and then simultaneously get annoyed that I didn't comment back in time, like I'm on some sort of a schedule for you. I've already committed not to respond directly to 2 certain posters here, so you're not getting it. So try not to be so obsessed with me in future guys xx

So much for the much vaulted TAILTEANN CUP I just listened to M Morrissey reviewing the week end JAA fixtures with Claire Byrne and not a word about the T Cup, Who do the JAA and RTE think they are fooling with all their guff about it being an important competition. It will be interesting to see what coverage it gets on the Sunday game.

I heard that too Kuga. Not a word about the two counties involved in the Tailteann Cup Final. Not in RTE's concerns apparently. A few people noted the omission, and Claire Byrne mentioned later, that Cavan and Westmeath would meet in tomorrow's final. Not good enough to ignore a national final.

Maybe Cavan and Westmeath should withdraw and show Marty what they think of him!!
Or the winners hand the Cup back if there isn't a load of coverage on the Sunday game night time programme.
You do realise
1 the game is live on TV
2 30,000 tickets sold for it
3 who is the JAA???

Westmeath should be favourites. The finished 3rd in Div 3 while Cavan were plying their trade in Div 4. Westmeath trounced a team that were unlucky to have been relegated from Div 2 , in their semi-final , Cavan struggled to overcome a team that didn't get out of Div 4. It's not that long ago since Westmeath were dining at the top table.
People say the bookies are seldom wrong but this time they are.. Westmeath by a couple of goals.

It is universally accepted that Cavan's presence in Division 4 was a reflection of underperforming in the league. Westmeath and Cavan will both be quietly confident of making the Division 3 final. An interesting rivalry in the making.

Wrong. Cavan have better players and should win if they play to their potential. Whether or not that happens is another issue. Tighten up at the back, put McLoughlin on Heslin and Cavan should win.

Replying To The_Fonz:  "I wasn't arguing with you, crafty from Galway said Cavan were a "class above" Westmeath which I disagree with. Cavan topped Div 4 and Westmeath finished 3rd in Div3. I expect it to be an evenly matched game.

If you want an argument, your team who you say only lost to Donegal, Dublin, and Tyrone in championship in the last 5 years and you base their performances on championship, only beat Sligo by 3 points. Sligo who were beaten by 12 by Roscommon this year, beaten by 20 points by Mayo last year, gave a walkover due to covid in 2020 and hammered by Galway in 2019.

If you want to look at it your way, we've only been beaten by Dublin and Kildare in last 3 seasons of championship in Leinster."
Looking forward to what u hope will be a good evenly contested match. The second tier competition needs to be a success in my opinion. It's great to hear commentators like Enda McGinley and Co giving it the profile it deserves

Well done to Westmeath and hard luck to Cavan , great advertisement for Tailteann cup today was a good match and great occasion . Sending off turned the tide in Westmeaths favour. Kieran Martin scored a fantastic goal.

Huge congratulations to our neighbours. Never in doubt. Seems it meant a great deal to them too evidenced by their excitement at the end. A worthwhile competition for sure.

Great contest and enjoyed seeing how happy westmeath were to win it . Probably slightly harsh red but westmeath deserved the win . A great addition to the gaa year as teams from divisions 3/4 have a great final to aim for . To see the westmeath players and fans after the win gives a good incentive for teams outside the top divisions that putting the effort in all year gives a chance for a cup final in croker. Fair pkag to the gaa for backing the competition.

Nothing harsh about it. It was late and reckless and has no place in our games. Tackles like that can cause serious injury, just look at Eoin McLaughlin in the AI semi last year.

Well done to Westmeath. Delighted to see our more noisy neighbours beaten.

Was both of those in fairness. I meant harsh as in a national final is normally a clear strike to get red . Not saying it wasn't warranted but personally I don't feel it was that malicious .

Congratulations to Westmeath, better team on the day won it. We never kicked on after our goal and the sending off killed off any momentum for us. It was always going to be a close game and disappointed we came out the wrong side of it, but we weren't good enough. See yis in Division 3 next year!
