that whole map thing cant be right, you mean to tell me somewhere like sligo has a total hurling population of over 1600 and the likes of Roscommon and Mayo too is fanciful thinking. It has the likes of Longford down with 500 to 900 playing population, theres barely 3 senior clubs in longford with a player base of about 20 to 25 players, some of these players would overlap over to minor and u20 if there is an u20 grade, wheres the 500 to 900 players coming to then? i just cant see it.
Fermanagh have one senior club left as far as i know, the map has fermanagh with a hurling population of 500 to 900!!!
totally ridiculous, same could be said for Cavan and alot of those ulster/connacht counties

Does anyone know how they arrived at the figures given?

Those figures are definitely inflated, Preddan. I would think though that Donegal, Sligo & Mayo have made most improvements in terms of increasing adult hurling numbers in recent years. Fermanagh have greatly increased the amount of underage hurling clubs & they now have a junior hurling competition at adult level.

I see where Cappagh played their first ever adult hurling league match last night in Kildare. 5 teams now in the Down senior hurling championship (as opposed to the traditional Ards three) so there are some green shoots.

RTÉ article on Meath hurling.
The article rightly states that Antrim and Offaly are the clear favourites to make the final, due to their Division 1 experience.

Hard to argue with that logic. And I'd probably have Antrim favourites overall as they did fairly well against the Liam McCarthy teams in general

Right there legend. The big two contenders, Antrim and Offaly meet this Saturday in Corrigan Park. A hard one for the Faithful County starting off.

I think Kerry have dropped back from their peak and Down are continuing their upward curve. Down are well organised.

Is it true that Shane Nolan quit the Kerry panel.

Big loss if that's the case, serious hurler.

It is true. He was number 22 on the matchday programme. The team was named on Wednesday evening. He was unhappy at being dropped. He rang the manager on Thursday to say he was calling it a day.

He just became a father this month. Think that had something to do with it too.
