I believe the gap between them is enormous. Then look at the margin Mount Sion beat the others by and it puts it in prospective. Image a club team in any county leaving a player like Billy O'Keeffe on the bench. Comes in two touches and two scores. Michael Ryan on radio got it corrrect this week when he said we do not produce enough players in the forwards who can win their own ball. I am not sure Ballygunner can help there. Maybe Kevin O' Mahony. Dessie will win ball if you can isolate him from the defender but that is different. Plan A of moving the ball through the ranks (gunners style) is okay but you better have plan B (Dan Shanahan style) of going direct and putting pressure on the other defence with ball winners. i think you take a player like Billy Kiely put him in that role. Leave him there and play it to him enough of times to make him effective. Not Davy's style. Luke O'Brien and John Curran may be called up but both are full backs with their clubs. Backs are not needed or at least not the most. Levay and Sheehan talked about from the gunners but in my opinion not the type of players suited for inter county. Darragh Lyons has more drive than the two of them together and was not used in the end last year. They need to take it easy with Patrick Fitzgearld or end up with him like Shane Bennett. Shane was never the same after 2017 All-Ireland taking the beating he got at 18.

Waterford are doing some things right that is probably the only thinh they can do. Look at players from alll clubs and grades to unearh players. A wise man said to me every club big or little has a star or two and you had be better looking at them. When Mount Sion were on top they wanted all their players on the county team. Had great players but some should never have got near the county team. If they were like Ballygunner are now and it was the 70's they would have 15 on it. Ballygunner have not been worth anymore on the county team up to now. A few more will come in, like Fitzgearld, Kevin and maybe Mikey O' Mahony.

While wishing the new county hurling management and players all the best I don't get it. Tony Browne, Dan Shanahan, Stephen Molumphy are good enough to be involved somewhere else but not at home. Surely Browne,Queally and Shanahan are capable of doing the job. Again it is a case of chasing the shining object.
