Ok folks! Scotstown playing a tough Ulster semi on Sun., .. So we all should unite & give them our full support. I believe they will be really giving it "sticK" this year, especially for the Hughes etc. I believe & hope they win Ulster this year. If they do so, they could certainly go on & bring the "Andy Merrigan cup" to Monaghan for the 1st time ( & a 1st Snr All -Ire for the County) ...... Imagine the "lift" that would give to Monaghan football.
I don't subscribe to the theory that "it takes from the County team"... in fact the final is now played 2 months earlier.
As I'm "exiled" in Galway...... in 1998, Galway had a very average team.... Corofin won the all-Ire club final that year on St. Patricks day, the 1st Connacht team to do so. That win, lifted the whole county & Galway came "out of nowhere" to win their 1st Sam since 1966 !.... it can be done!

Didn't travel to Omagh but sounded like Carrick left it behind them and the scotstown match should never have even started.

Further evidence if any were needed of shambolic split season, nothing has changed very disrespectful to clubs involved in club championship games having to play important games in the ****hole of November on waterlogged pitches

Typical carrick, absolutely no backbone when the going gets tough. No doubt they have talent but when push comes to shove they don't like it tough. Always the case and always been the case

what happened yesterday was so GAA...how a pitch is deemed good at the start of a game but not for the final 30 minutes is a bit of a joke...everyone should be rightly angry for the inconvenience caused

i have no doubt that player welfare should have been taken into consideration and its better to make the right decision late rather than never but the right decision was surely to assess the pitch 2-3 hours before kick off...what kind of numpties had a say here. need to name and shame

Carrick 7 or 8 points the better team but got what the deserved. Playing hold ball and taking wrong options. Too cute for their own good. Emyvale to a lesser extent reaped what the sowed on Saturday. The keeper's mistake was only the last nail in the coffin. Should have had game well wrapped up before that.

The biggest issue with this was that a double header was scheduled for Omagh in late November - anyone with an ounce of sense should have known that you couldn't rely on that surface. The 2nd biggest issue was that the decision to call the game off wasn't taken before the game - conditions were bad enough already, for the decision to be made then. As it is, Joe left it til half time when one side has a decent lead and it leaves that side feeling very aggrieved. If the call was made before the game, I'm sure both sets of management would have completely understood

In fairness, nothing to do with the split season. Even before the split season was introduced, the provincial club championships were played through to end November/early December, before the All-Ireland semi-finals and finals took place in the New Year.

If you don't want them this time of year, what are your proposals re. playing them at some other time of year, and how do you work the entire inter-county and club county championships around those proposals?

Main issue leading to yesterday's abandonment was the dubious decision to have double-headers.

Poor decision to start the game IMO, not like there wasn't any evidence available around potential playing conditions, having witnessed a full game and a half before hand, where the ball wouldn't bounce off the surface, add that to a simple look a the rainfall radar, it should have been a no brainer and a call made at the end of normal time in the first match. The correct decision was eventually and belatedly arrived at.
It does, however, open up debate about the structure of the season, and, the structure of championships within counties

If I was Scotstown I wouldn't be complaining too much, they were not playing well (bar a few of the young lads) and had they continued in that manner in the second half could easily have lost. Both teams would need to have a look at Kilcoo performance the previous day if the are to have any hope of competing with them in the final, because there certainly is no guarantee of ideal conditions for the final at this time of year

The issue too is that when David McCague asked JMcQ after the game had he inspected it before the game he said he hadn't. Then you have Michael Geoghegan preaching after the game how experienced he is … but not that experienced how to assess the pitch before.

If it was a dry day I think Scotstown would wipe them easily. Scotstown went man to man on defence and Newbridge had the wind first half. Expect a 5/6 point victory next weekend

Obviously you were sitting on the highstool again or you would have seen the ref inspecting the pitch before the game. Also the pitch was safe to play on at that stage. Again if you were at the game you would have noticed the the incessant rain that fell in the first half making the pitch unsafe to continue on. You, along with the other guys coming on here spoofing about fixtures and split seasons are a laugh. If you want all football played in Summer months then the only answer is for clubs to play without their county players. Good luck with getting that over the line.
