Is it just me or is every other county championship further on than us? And then we give our senior championship a 2 weekend break.

I dont know the ulster dates and maybe were running ours very well to meet that, but going by reports we seem behind.

Just saying

Supposedly to help our county champions in the Ulster competitions. A lot of other clubs from other county's have a few too many weeks between the county final and the first round of Ulster and they feel they come in undercooked - apparently.

Yes Blayney are the same in intermediate. They'll find it very very tough against Carrick now in a semi final

Other semi finalists (Clontibret) have 4 weeks between last game and their semi. Just the luck when they received their Bye. Clontibret had a 3 week break in the middle of the championship.

The structure is all a bit messy. A lot of teams played 2 games within 6/7 days and then a break and then 2 games within the same time frame again. I do think the Quarter finals should be on this weekend though and the semis the following week and the final two weeks after that. That would pull all forward a week.

All a bit dragged out. If its for the purpose of county champions having less of a break before Ulster it is a little inconsiderate also if the final goes to a replay and then celebrations to be had and maybe out the following week in Ulster is a bit of a hinderance.

Some more thought should be put into the whole quarter and semi finals timing I think.

What's the predictions for the championship quarter finals should be some cracking games especially the senior ones now that it's proper knock out football

Scot v Latton = Latton. Scotstown can't get their 2 county men on the pitch, an aging squad & just not playing well. Big upset on the cards.

Corduff v Magheracloone = Corduff but only just. Think this will be a tight one!

Senior
Scotstown v Latton : Scotstown due to Latton injury list
Corduff v Maghercloone: Corduff as they will make it a dog fight and grind out a win.

Intermediate:
Carrick v Tyholland : Carrick with too much fire power compared to a weak Tyholland team
Doohamlet v Kilanny: Kilanny have been a more dominant force this last few years

Junior:
Scotstown v Eire Og: Eire Og
Currin v Aghabog: Aghabog
Emyvale v rockcorry: Emyvale to win it out completely I think
Seans v Blackhill: Blackhill

Sad to see a anoher link with 2013 ster winning team retired. Karl will will go down as one of our greatest. His lung bursting runs through defences and scoring points at crucial times were a joy to behold. Unlucky not to get the second All-Star. Thanks for the memories Karl. Enjoy retirement.

Darren and Karl leave behind big boots to fill.
What a pleasure it has been to watch them for the last 15+ years. Them, their leadership and their attitude represented Monaghan to what it was and im sure they have passed that on to the next generation to ensure it is still the Monaghan to be.
Proud to say iv watched them many many times and very thankfully for the highs they have given us.

Special mention to Karl for his special feat of only starting to play GAA at 17 and becoming an All Star, as states somewhere else I doubt that feat will ever be matched again.

Cheers lads

Senior
Scotstown v Latton : Scotstown are liable to do it just because they have the know how and fire power but Latton are always tough and have a deep enough pool of players there too, plenty with underage county experience too.. hard to look past the Hughes brothers though..
Corduff v Magheracloone: bad day to be a breaking ball in this game.. hard to see Corduff slipping up here though.

Intermediate:
Carrick v Tyholland : Carrick are just a stronger outfit,

Doohamlet v Kilanny: Two more workmanlike teams, no big winner in this one. We've the winner of this one and we tend to struggle against Kilanny so I'm hoping for a Doohamlet win.

Junior:
Scotstown v Eire Og: Eire Og - Scotstown will be pulling men from this group to cover some injuries to the first team I'd imagine.
Currin v Aghabog: Currin don't seem up to much this year.
Emyvale v rockcorry: Emyvale far too strong and too much of a bench.
Seans v Blackhill: Blackhill.

Two phenomenal players on the field and excellent ambassadors for Monaghan GAA - thanks Darren and Karl on your outstanding contributions over many years on pitches up and down the country, for driving and maintaining standards, stepping up at vital moments when required, for your bravery, skill, passion, belief ....

You won't be easily replaced and certainly won't be forgotten by Monaghan folk and many GAA supporters around the country and you leave Monaghan football in a great place as you hang up your boots.

Hopefully both men ,and the many other great players that have retired in recent years too, have lots more to offer Monaghan in the future also by sharing their skills, enthusiasm and love of the game with future generations of footballers in the county.

To these outstanding Gaels - THANK YOU

Killanny very impressive vs doohamlet. The winner of the game vs Donaghmoyne will be the favourite to bring the intermediate home. Castleblayney will fancy their chances vs Carrick too after topping their group. Fancy killanny vs Castleblayney final.

Killanny giving doohamlet a right hiding, expected that doohamlet would be happy enough to be safe. Fancy them to beat Donaghmoyne in the semi they'll be hard beat. Castleblayney will be licking their lips at getting carrick in the semi final after topping their group. Fancy a blayney killanny final.
