Replying To Kuga:  "This results in division 1 being (topsy turvy) when I go to a division 1 game, I want to see the best players in the county playing, not players from division 2 and 3, it also leads to the standard of football in the county declining."
In fairness with the split season now. And our championship format (basically a league before knock out) The league is and should be for non county players or at the very least not held up for county player involvement. There needs to be something out there on a consistent basis for the non county man. If this means Lomans, Killucan, Malachys or whoever need to be in div 2,3,4 to be competitive then so be it. It helps build squads etc. and the championship will still be won by the best team

Replying To KooCullen:  "I don't care what club we are taking about, but considering the fact that St. Lomans are already missing over 10 players with county commitments (hurling/football), surely its unfair that they are being told to field 3 adult sides between 2 o'clock on Saturday and 2 o'clock on Sunday. I'm told that their juniors are already effectively filling in for their Div 1 side (who'll be out at 2.00pm on Saturday) and their remaining Junior players are being told to play Div 3 on Sunday at 11.30am and Div 4 on Sunday at 2.00pm. Its no wonder they were almost relegated from Div 1 & Div 4 last year. Im not a Lomans supporter but its still not right in my opinion."
Im sure they will have Danny Mc Cartan and Geoghegan available for some league matches and Fola and Kelvin Reilly tocome back in . So then theres Daly , Sam, O Toole, Hes and Dempsey with county and Regan with hurlers. Whos the rest? Foy played first round against Moate which leads me to believe hes no longer with Longford . TJ played also . Lomans always have this burden for the league. Maybe their strength in depth isnt what it was. The Downs areprobably missing as many county, injuries etc. Caulry feeling the pinch too . They were hammered by Miltownpass.

Replying To KooCullen:  "Who said they didn't have numbers ??? Looking at this weeks paper it looks like they fielded around 50 different players last weekend in Div 1, 3 & 4, but with only 5-6 of those players who started last years county final, the rest appear to be all minor or Junior footballers. They should be cut some slack considering 2/3rd's of their Div 1 side are representing their County, the Downs the same. Why aren't the other 3rd sides (from Shamrocks, Athlone & Garrycastle) out this weekend ?"
Athlone don't have a 3rd team, Garrycastle's 3rd team are in Div 6.No fixtures for div 6 yet.

The fact of the matter is Lomans arent good enough anymore to have 3 teams in the top 4 divisions. They do not have the strength in depth anymore. League football is played without county players. Which means high level junior players will have to fill the gaps. Lomans should be putting all their enough into Div 1 and allowing young players get the experience needed to play Div 3/4. As another user has pointed out Killucan have been in Div 3 for the last 8-10 years in the league this is because of them having many county hurlers. Why should we change the league now because Lomans are struggling??

What's your solution Kuga? No point in cursing the dark when there's a candle that needs lighting.

Very important and tough away game, winners have great chance of promotion. Hopefully dessie has a fully fit panel. Westmeath need to start a bit stronger than this league campaign has shown. Bench made a big difference last day against offaly which is exactly what's needed. Hopefully Wallace is back this week

Wallace, if fit will start, few lads went off last week, possible injured and few came on. KM might not have a full game in him so better to finish a game.

You'd imagine Jack Smith will make way. Didn't look good he went off so early last week and probably rushed back from his injury. Hopefully he's not out for too much longer. He played well in the half back line and was a good option going forward before going off

Possible daly, scahill, maguire, dolan, mccartan, Wallace, harte, connellan, Duncan, mccormack, otoole, Baker, luke, heslin, dolan..Lynch and Smith both went off before or at half time so presumably injured.
Strong bench aswell

Team announced last night:

Daly
Scahill
Maguire
Harte
J. Dolan
J. Smith
McCartan
Duncan
Connellan
Baker
OToole
McCormack
L. Dolan
Heslin
Loughlin

I'd expect that team to start save for the question mark over Smith at 6. Presume Wallace out so Lynch might come in. Young Dillon did well v Offaly and no doubt will see game time again too. Is he son of one of the selectors ?

That's a nonsense post from someone who obviously wasn't there. We played our best football since Tailteann final for 48-49 mins, John Heslin was superb, Down supporters were increasingly frustrated and we deservedly led by 6, penalty completely changed the game's momentum, Down sniffed an opportunity for 2 unlikely points and we failed to score in last 27 mins. Our kickouts proved a real problem in closing stages. Big blow to promotion hopes as we can only get 10 points max. Have to hope that Cavan beat Down although the head to head result tonight might also prevent us getting up.
