Replying To BigSur:  "Peter Tormey is a busy man and building up an interesting coaching cv. Still playing for Bun who are preparing for a county junior final, he's coach to the Rhode senior footballers and also saw him on the line with Rochfortbridge at the weekend. Believe he was also doing a bit with a Galway club as well as a selector with Roscommon earlier this year."
Ah was sure that was him I saw as runner for Rhode during county final on TG4!

Shane Curran staying on with Caulry for 2023. He has done good job with them.

Announced on Caulry Gaa Facebook page that he was reappointed for 2023. No word on Owen Mooney who is the brains of the operation but presume he is staying on.

From a football point of view Shane Curran has done a great job with Caulry, keeping them in Section A this year, came up short against Tyrellspass in SFC quarter final. However, his antics on game day, remonstrating with referees and officials, sideline bans, etc, don't make for great optics for young players, aspiring coaches and GAA fans in general.

Replying To jamsie:  "Exactly , the premier championship with amalgamations was the top competition. Tubberclair would have been Shannon Gaels with Maryland and Tang. Not sure if they ever won minor.
17 years since The Downs won, and that day might have been the last time Lomans won the minor I think?"
Lomans won a minor in 2011 against athlone who had Robbie henshaw midfield. Did heslins age win a minor the year before in 2010 ?

Very good post Joxer, is there any significance in the two senior football finalists being managed by two men whose sideline demeanour is always impeccable, Declan Kelly and Lar Wall rarely raise their voice on the line and certainly don't indulge in histrionics towards the match officials. The same can be said of the managers of all the football finalists although Martin McCabe can get a bit loud on the line, don't remember him being that way with Garrycastle

No, they lost the final to Ennell Shamrocks in 2010. Lomans didn't win the premier championship in 2011 though - which was the primary one to win. It was won by a crazy Caulry/Castledaly/Garrycastle amalgamation.

Never mind premier championship they won a div 1 championship in 2011 i was at the game. I was at the premier final aswell but I don't think anyone seen that as the real championship. So who won minor div 1 championship in 2010.

No idea who won it. There were years that the div1 wasn't even run to a conclusion in the calendar year. I'm a bit older than the lads who played in the finals above, but certainly when I was minor the one that mattered was the premier. The "club" championship was a distant second in importance. It's the premier that was on before the senior final ; including in 2011.

Was it Clann Braonain (St. Marys, Tpass, Milltownpass amalgamation)? Nearly sure they beat Lomans in the final in 2010.

I wonder what new players will get the opportunity to make the WH senior squad after this years local championship. There must be a few guys from intermediate and junior teams strongly considered along with some more from the downs, Lomans, caulry and kinnegad. Some nice young forwards around.

It's county final week. What are our predictions, potential match ups. Who'll mark John Heslin, Who'll mark Luke Loughlin etc. Lots of intriguing ones.

Multyfarnham v Bunbrosna
Multy will be strong favourites on paper but Bun can stop good teams from playing football, it was always the case. I would not be surprised if this takes a second day. I have heard rumours of splits in the Multy camp so if that is the case it could upset their preparation.
Multy by 2 or a draw.

Shandonagh v Tubberclair
Shandonagh for me, Tubberclair have had a great year but this final may be a year too soon, could be a cracker. Shandonagh by 3 or 4.

The Downs v St Lomans
Neutral in me would like to see the Downs win for variety, but the way Lomans are set up and their middle 8 players, they really are a class team.
Lomans by 3 after an scare in the first half as Downs forwards could come out of the blocks strong.

Shinrone's history making efforts in Offaly yesterday should inspire The Downs but I fancy Loman's for the following reasons. The Downs lads like Mitchell, Egerton, Loughlin, Loughlin Stones and Nolan have the distraction and the disappointment of the hurling yesterday. Loman's have had no such distractions all year. County final day experience counts for a lot. Loman's have huge experience of the day. Loman's are fitter than when they last met and at full strength. Fola likely to start. Loman's are in excellent form, they beat Kilcoo recently in a challenge match. That's a significant statement. The Downs defence is their weakest part of the team. Darragh Egerton prob mark Ronan O' Toole but their other defenders will struggle to contain Heslin, Cox and Dempsey. Loman's by 4-5.

Multyfarnham v Bunbrosna
Can't see anything other than a win for Multy.

Shandonagh v Tubberclair
Was very impressed with Tubberclair against St. Marys in the semi-final. A strong youthful side. In comparison, Shandonagh scraped passed Milltown and did not set the world alight in the group stages. Tubberclair by 5.

The Downs v St Lomans
You have to feel that Lomans have been gradually building for the final all year. They have all the experience at this stage and that should see them over the line. Lomans by 3.

Sam McCartan will be picked up by Charlie Drumm
Ronan O Toole will be picked up by Joe Moran or Conor Coughlan
Tj Cox and Dempsey will be picked up by Darragh Egerton and Peter Murray
Mark Kelly will pick up John Heslin

Luke Loughlin will be picked up David Whelan
Mitchell will be picked up by Sean Flanagan

Hard game to call. I'm going to go Lomans by 3
