Replying To Claretandblue:  "Looks like Dessie Dolan about to be appointed as new senior boss with John Keane assistant. I'd expect to see Peter Tormey added to that backroom team."
Peter tormey. I doubt that very. Uch

What's the verdict on Dessie as new manager ? One of the best players westmeath has produced but to me this is a terrible appointment. Seems to be a lazy option rather than approach an experienced manager and let Dessie and John continue along with a new manager. Maybe continuity from old setup but it's a poor appointment

Very disrespectful and immature comment.

Both Down and Lomans by 8+, both Killucan and TP lucky to be this far.
St Marys by 1 & Shandonagh by 3
Multy by 2 & Bun to shade after extra time.

How can it be a poor appt before he even starts?? At least give the new set up an opportunity to make their mark, some lads here will do anything for a whinge.

I have absolutely nothing against Dessie or John, I hope it turns out a huge success. My thinking would have been get in an experienced manager and keep Dessie and John along with him, give the lads further experience. Just seems a huge step in a very short time frame. I hope I'm proven wrong

Surprised at Dessie's appointment, considering he's no previous management experience outside of schools football. I wish him the best. He'll have plenty of wisdom at hand.

Good luck Dessie - the county needs to get behind him in support and unity. Negativity will get us nowhere.

Being surprised at the appointment isn't negative. I was very surprised about it aswell. We all wish him the absolute best and hope he hits the ground running but I thought it wasn't the right time to appoint him.

The social media posts announcing both Dessie as football manager and Joe Fortune continuing as hurling manager were so bad they were quickly deleted. While social media has no impact on results , it's another example of how far Westmeath are behind most counties in some areas.

Looks like the Westmeath county board chose not to bother with any manager search and just this years selector as manager and kept on the same coach that worked under Cooney.

They put up a post with a maroon background, Westmeath crest, picture of Dessie and writing saying he was announced as manager. Looked like something you'd design on Microsoft word in the 90's! A lot of criticism online e.g. "Dessie's first appointment will be a graphic designer" and it was deleted and changed to just a picture of Dessie, after the initial tweet had been shared by many local and national media outlets which makes it worse again that it was then deleted!

That was a major mistake Westmeath2. Could certainly impinge on our National league hopes, the players are strong enough to recover in time for the championship!!! Surprised Dessie hasn't resigned over this catastrophe.
