Replying To Maroon Heaven:  "Solid performance devoid of great play. The conditions didn't help. Westmeath left 1-3 in scores they didn't get in the first half, which would have put the game to bed early in second half. McNamara was immense in Clare's midfield, matched by our own Ray Connellan. imo The maturity of Heslin was missed on a day like today. Dont know if there was cameras at the game, but from what some supporters said leaving the ground was that we were lucky to get square ball for Clare's last goal.

Good to see Ronan Wallace back to full fitness and a strong performance from Drumm at full back. For €12 you'd be hard pressed to find better excitement"
Based on the image I see online it was a terrible decision but still a win is a win

Gavin Murray playing midfield today for Clare. Isn't he from Moate around 26-28 years of age?
Never been in any Westmeath panels. Moves down to Clare for work last year and gets into to the Clare 15 straight away.

Thought he did well today for Clare. Good reader of the game. Direct with his runs, physical. Not afraid to mix it. I don't think he ever got a sniff for our seniors which is strange

Nice footballer but playing with a soft Moate team never really seen him as a possible candidate for Westmeath moving to a new club in Clare maybe gets the best out him one to keep a eye on. Good luck to him on his county career . Just goes to show you players can be overlooked

Wow looking at the pics/comments on Tommy Rooney's Twitter/X page it looks like we definately got out of jail with the square ball incident. But we take the win/2points and run.!!

On the Image there is a clare forward standing in the square right beside the Westmeath keeper. Clearly interfering with play. I reckon that was the square call

I thought he was anonymous for long spells, he was marking Connellan and it was very clear who won that duel. Not many on this forum suggested Gavin to be on the county panel when he was with Moate AW. His midfield partner was outstanding, prob the best player on the pitch.

Replying To JakeWest:  "Great news , a long time coming. We are still 10/15 years behind most counties though and that is very evident at underage level.
Cant wait to see the levies on the clubs going forward following this news."
The levies on clubs is a big call. Will all clubs from junior up to senior make the same amount of payment. Why should a junior club with maybe 50 members pay the same as one of the big town clubs with say 700+ plus members. As a member of a junior club delighted to get jps gift, I'm well pissed off if we're expected to pay the same as the lines of lomans, downs, shamrocks or any other well kitted out club. That's the reality of the levy.

we got out of jail simple as . we were dragged over the line by the usual reliables . 1jamie gonoud who swept up any loose ball that came near him 2 luke loughlin apart from a couple of wayward kicks his work rate and hunger for work was phenomenal 3 kieran martin . there isnt much more i can say about the bear . still our go to man off the bench . some of our vaunted forwards could learn a lot from him . 4 ronan o toole . the heart of the team holding possesion great passing and the winning score .5 and the best untill last . what a wonderful footballer athlete ray connelan is . my throat is raw this morning from my shouts of praise to him during the game . one word describes this man outstanding . we sneaked a win but made hard work of it . onwards to wicklow now

Yes this is where I seen it not the best quality image but still looks to be a bad decision

I think the way the game is played leads to players coming in and out of games. He was definitely more prominent in the second half. He's a defender so that may have played a part.

Did you not see the Clare player standing right in front of the goalkeeper?

The image on Twitter as Clare player passes the ball shows that the goal was legitimate, it looked that way yesterday so a bit of luck that we got. Performance needs to improve in many areas but a decent start. Ronan O' Toole was the only starting forward to score, that's a concern, Andy McCormack has taken his chance since last summer's championship matches, outstanding yesterday.

Gavin was a peripheral player on the Westmeath senior squad during Tom Cribbens time in charge, won minor, u21, junior, intermediate and Leinster junior titles with a 'soft' Moate team. He then transferred to Eire Og in Ennis last year. He gave a good account of himself yesterday.

Good player but exactly what I mean by soft never pushed on after winning so many Junior and underage titles lacking toughness is probably what I mean about Moate take nothing away from Murray a decent player and maybe there are more like him around in Westmeath with Junior clubs that we are missing out on

Our county ground is an eyesore the money raised for the improvements on facilities haven't done much… all the moss is a hazard it's only a matter of time before someone slips and hurts themselves behind the goals and the terrace are a joke the toilets are a joke … county board forever raising money but never seem to put it where it's needed

I don't think our County Board are sitting on a mountain of cash. I guess they put whatever cash they have into things they think are more important. I don't think moss or the toilets are top priority for them even though they would be an easy fix.
