Replying To BarneyGrant:  "It is big ask but it should be. Will be better with Bulger and McMahon and hopefully Murchan back. And fit Smalls after first day out.

They could lose badly to Galway of course and maybe to Ulster runner up by head to head with Derry but that would be humiliating i think."
Galway might win but if they do it will be very close. I Think we will come in the top two of the group at least. We are better than Mayo and Galway very lucky to beat them.

Louth 2-17 v Dublin 1-8

Louth have won Leinster u20, and are in both the Minor & Senior Football Finals.... WOW.
Some achievement.

Offlay beat Kildare in the other Leinster minor semi this evening.

And Dublin didnt make the lads Leinster football finals in minor, u20 or senior....

Looks like Leinster football is finally alive and well.

Spotlight might just switch to Munster football now for a change.... lol"
Maybe more lads will play hurling instead!

Underage has been dreadful since Farrell left. Too soft.

It would be nice to see that Barney but I always think our skills level in hurling is never up to the top teams.
It can be agricultural at best sometimes tbh.

I would love nothing more than to see our hurlers be successful but in reality we are miles off the likes of Clare, Kilkenny, Limerick, Tipp & Cork. And behind Galway also imo.

This season a Leinster Final appearance is probably the best we can do.
But I do think Niall will bring us on and we definitely have a lot more young hurling talent in Dublin than young footballing at present. In fact our underage hurling talent has been quite good recently - just need to turn them into top senior hurlers now. ;o)

I disagree. i think Ó Ceallacháin and his team of selectors have brought a new depth of knowledge and a different approach to country lads who had exactly that view of the Dublin teams they were managing. Minimum expectations and damage control was their first priority to not blemish CV for next move, Enough of that. Wexford and others know all about that and have likewise gone internal, and rightly so. Will pay off in end.

Na Fianna are a very skillful team and we have had excellent underage teams well able to hurl with the top lads. Indeed it was Cork's physicality that beat us in 20s final a few years back. Not complaining. That's the game as Limerick and Cats have shown and that has brought Cork back as contenders.

It is marrying the two - the skills and the steel that makes teams competitive. We don't have maybe the same stream of lads coming through but they are there. This year is a bit odd in that Niall and the lads are getting the best out of Hedger and Ronan Hayes who to be honest I was not expecting to see in championship.

We have a genuine top class midfield in the two Conors and tough skillful lads in all parts. Defence can be a bit ropey and caught for goals but no shortage of heart and steel.

I am still not convinced our skill levels are on a par with the top teams I mentioned.
And as you say, physically we were too easy too bully.

I agree that Niall will make big improvements but it will take a while.

You mention NF, I was delighted to see Na Fianna win the All Ireland but I was at the Dublin county final and they were very lucky to win it. I actually thought they were Not the best team on the day.

Conceding goals has always been our achilles heel.

We have a few injuries already this year so our squad will be stretched.

I give Niall a pass this year but I hope and expect us to really improve and challenge the big teams next year.
We are not there yet.

No, not there yet. Might never be, but I prefer the whole thing to be in hands of ourselves rather than the constant running around after some big name. No harm to any of them, but we have a situation now where Donoghue will have huge inside knowledge of Dublin when they play Galway in what could well be a crucial. Certainly will be for one or other.

That's ridiculous especially in the way he suddenly decamped! Footballers and DCB would never in a million years allow such a situation to come about,

Spot on.
Massive game alright.
Would love for Niall to win it.

We have the heart and determination, just need to match the physicality and get close to their skill set.
Tactics wise - I trust Niall.

Yes, he is clever chap and surrounds himself with the right people. Also not afraid to bring in lads who are fierce club level rivals from Crokes and Vinnies and others.

Most importantly of all he seems to have that quiet way of inspiring players to be their best. Which is something Gilroy and Jim Gavin had/have and which you cannot buy in the market place.

They will do their best, that is for certain.
