Surprised nobody here has spoken about the senior b semi between Ringtown and Daltons yet. Daltons were deserved winners. McCabe showed up when his team needed him most. Was at all the ringtown games this year, and they will be disappointed with their performance. Scored 1-27 against Delvin but only 0-11 the other days. Moore and Cunningham didn't have their days. However, Ringtown will learn from this and will be back next year. They have come on strides since they got promoted 2 years ago. Daltons to win final by 5.

I wasnt at semi but at the first match when Daltons scored 5 goals. The 2 Mccabes,Clear, and Kearney are good players.Daltons are physically very strong which will cause Delvin problems but they can be wasteful.Delvin will be more accurate.
Ringtown need to strengthen their panel.Very dependent on Moore,Cunningham and Corrigan to create scores. They also need a reliable free taker.

To make it in elite sport its not just talent that is needed but ambition and dedication. Many talented youngsters just dont have thse qualities and find other interests."
Fair point. I think generally it's difficult to resolve the senior b and the relevant standard issue. fairly sure clubs wouldn't amalgamate to get good games.

I think the Senior B and intermediate clubs are showing signs of improvement. In 2025 Clonkill Raharney and Catletown's B teams will all be in the third grade when a few years ago they were winning second tier titles.
I am not saying the Senior B winners are going to be super competitive in 2025 but with the level of progress maybe by 2028.Delvin almost relegated in 2023 finalists in 2024 shows how tight a competition it is.
There is no doubt the underage scene has improved and standards have risen. The Na Piarsiag and Clan Na Gael amalgamations have made our underage tier 1 competitions very competitive with Plunketts getting their act together.Daltons,Southern Gaels and St.Brigids are fielding at every grade. The biggest concern now is St Vincents

Vincent's are having issues with numbers which they shouldn't be, decent area to pick from there Multyfarnham, Crookedwood, up into Whitehall. They won an all Ireland Feile title at u15 level this year so maybe its not all so bad for them. The clubs surrounding them have got considerably stronger, Na Piarsaigh has been a great success, you will see Turin move up the ladder at adult level over the next couple of years and the Gaels have already improved a lot at senior into back to back county finals.

Heard Clan Na Gael were comfortable winners over a good Clonkill in under 14 final.Anyone at it?

Very talented Clan Na Gael team that will benefit Pollard and Brownstown in the years ahead. Anyone know roughly what the split of players are?

Roughly 50/50, the prominent players mostly on Brownstown side

I'm not sure if the benefits from Na piarsigh have been seen with the Gaels as of yet, most of that Gaels team are all around the 25+ mark with the exception of Shane & David Williams

Pollard,Brownstown,Gaels and Turin will take a few years to see the benefits but they will come. Our underage competitions from the games I have seen have improved a lot.
Clan now U14 champions and in semi in 16s and 20's.Na Piarsaigh contenders in every grade.
The Wood and Ringtown must see the benefits these 4 are getting and start getting all their youngsters out.The board need to give them a bit of a lift with coaching to help get it moving as St Vincents is important to Westmeath.

Well next year it'll be more so Turin who will benefit with Conor Heffernan, Darragh Smith and Conor Leech eligible. I think they'll make an intermediate final next year.

Clonkill were much smaller, they had a player in dug out on crutches so presume he was a loss, Clonkill were quite skillful, touch was excellent, Full back Adam Slevin was great, Another Slevin in forwards was super, Clann na Gael were physically stronger, Channing ?? at centre forward was brilliant and Jack McGuinness at midfield was powerful, Conor Raleigh was brilliant despite being double marked.

Good feedback Claret&Blue. Regarding Clonkill I wouldn't worry too much about their size as that'll even itself out as they get on into minor etc. The most important thing that you eluded to was that they were skillful and had a good first touch, which means they are being coached well. Also good to see at this grade that Plunketts, Na Piarsaigh, Castletown also have skillful teams. The more teams competitive at Division 1 level the better, albeit Clann Na Gael are just ahead of the rest.

Thanks for that. This grade looks very strong. Are there a number of the Clonkill lads on the CBS team doing so well in Leinster?

I don't think so, that cbs junior team is mostly made up of u15/u16s.

It's a pity that four of the best players on that Clann na Gael team are not in the CBS in Mullingar. Brownstown's Conor Raleigh, Jack McGuinness, Jamie McGuinness and Luke Ward from Pollard all in Athboy school, nothing wrong with that but they would be some additions to the Mullingar school.

Big week ahead. Will all 3 cups be going south of Mullingar for the 1st time ever?? Or can the 3 north Westmeath clubs in close proximity take home all?
I'm calling it that Brownstown will be the only north Westmeath club to take home the silver
Interesting that Castletown have beaten the Gaels twice in Cusack already this summer, could it be 3rd time lucky for the Gaels? I don't believe so personally. On both occasions the Gaels were at full strength and Castletown were missing key personnel. League final - Niall, Peter Clarke, David o Reilly, group stages: David o Reilly Shane clavin

Wouldn't be surprised if Southern Gaels cause a surprise in Intermediate although Brownstown should have enough. In Senior B it has the makings of a great final, Delvin have a few county standard hurlers but will come up against a very physical Fr Daltons who have Eoghan McCabe up front, a real handful.
In Senior A, it'll be interesting to see will the Gaels leave Jogger up in the forwards for this one. Castletown have a potent forward line with Murphy, Aonghus Clarke, Varley, Niall O'Brien, David O'Reilly and Jack Gallagher. The Gaels were particularly strong at the back against Clonkill but they'll need to be tuned in even more so for CTG.
Gaels have the momentum having beaten both Raharney and Clonkill in their last two games whereas Castletown have been waiting the last few weeks so that may swing it in the Gaels favour. Only time will tell. Should be a good crowd in for it. I'll go Brownstown for Intermediate, Delvin for Senior B and and CTG for Senior A.

i hope llg win the senior i think westmeath hurling needs a new winner outside of ctg, raharney and clonkill, its 20 years since its last been done. ive nothing against ctg btw a great hurling club.
as regards the leinster i just cant see any progress this year kk champs again it always seems to be the kk or dub champs last few years, if it was against anyone else definitley a chance but short straw drawn again.
in the intermediate delvin or fr daltons will have their work cut out against borris on ossory kilcotton a team id fancy for leinster. in junior brownstown or southern gaels they might get to a leinster semi. the louth champs might not b that bad.
