He was probably due a game like that given how consistent he's been and he's very young.. If he's finished top scorer in 1B then he's done something right. Leave him on them and if we need to change it up during the Joe Mcdonagh then I'm sure Killian will be ready to take over.

Killian is a better free taker, more distance and experience. Davy Williams is a fine back up. Too young yet to be entrusted in championship with frees. He can focus on his hurling

That's a fair point. He will be taking them in the u20 championship and that will be pressure in itself.
Best of luck to the minor hurlers on Saturday, they've had challenge games against Laois and Limerick recently and are going quiet well.

Why fix something that's not broken!! Davy Williams has great power behind his frees I know he missed 3 against the Dubs every free taker has an off day even in the top counties.. sure if he missed 3 last weekend why didn't fortune put Killian on them there and then!!! He obviously sees something in Willliams to keep him on them.. I think give the lad a chance if they dnt work out in championship then change it but for now I would leave it as it is. Davy has a great head on his shoulders and is a fantastic hurler I'm sure he will be up to the task!! Give him a chance!!

Lads just looking ahead to the Joe Mcdonagh cup. I believe we are probably the 3rd ranked team. We have it all to do. Offaly would be favoutites in my opinion. On the basis we have only beaten Laois once in 50 years of championship hurling they will be a tough nut to crack. Kerry at home on April 21st. Never an easy game. Down on ard peninsula is never an easy game either. Meath at home. Local darby. We will need to be fired up for it. Hopefully the hurling public in the county need to get behind the team especially Offaly away. Poor support in the league. Maybe it was the fear of getting some hidings. Get out and support the team for championship. Hopefully there will be a trip to Croker at the end of it if we can play to our potential.

I agree mainly because we cant rely on Doyle's fitness. The Dublin game was his first start in a year as far as I remember and he appears 80% at best.No one would disagree that a fully fit Doyle is not a top top hurler and free taker but he has only a month to put his injuries behind him.In the meantime young Williams has done well.

Best of luck to the Westmeath minor Hurlers at the weekend and for the championship also. Every year I look forward to seeing how they get on..I think you could do well this year along with the u20s. What is the team and how many clubs involved. The Meath Minor Hurlers got v good publicity on their website with pics of panel and clubs represented. Westmeath should try do the same on their website and try and promote it and get it in the public eye more.its a pity

Westmeath minors and u20s have good teams this year. Westmeath social media has always been mediocre, although its slowly improving. They put up the panel and took it down again earlier though

Amazing that Athlone, a town of 22000 people cannot provide one minor hurler to the county panel.
All the schools in the town and two hurling clubs in the hinterland
hurling development plan non existent

It's a fair point, and on the u15 team that beat Kilkenny in the schools, only one player from Athlone. More needs to be done down there. Contrast that to Mullingar, Plunketts and Cullion providing 11 hurlers to the minor panel.

What two clubs in the hinterland? Westmeath minor footballers out in championship soon and I'd hazard a guess that there won't be many players from Castlepollard or Collinstown on the football panel either. It's hardly breaking news that Athlone is struggling to have inter county hurlers, rugby, soccer and Gaelic by far the most popular sports there

We only have 10 teams fielding at minor level at the moment. 7 stand alone and 3 combinations.
7 clubs represented on the county minor panel.
Plunkett's look to be the best structured club at underage providing 2 teams at some age groups.

Amazing Valley. Can u name all the top county hurlers that came from Athlone and maybe top Kilkenny footballers while your at it! Such is life! You may have a word with the selectors.

Minors beat wicklow in the first round of Leinster 8-28-0-03.
A 49 point win.
It was a good performance but they won't have learned much from that.

I was at the game but I have to say Westmeath social media again woeful. No updates for anyone that couldn't make it.

8-27 is some score but dont get carried away Wicklow were hopeless. Still our lads could only beat what was put in front of them. Away to Meath next who will be a better test to prepare for Antrim and Offaly.Lets give Southern Gaels some credit they are fielding at every underage grade, winning division 2 titles in a divided town dominated by Rugby,Soccer and Football. They are gradually getting stronger so hopefully will contribute more in the years ahead.
Remember Roscommon take a good chunk of that 22000.

Wicklow underage has been an absolute shambles for as long as I remember and it's leading onto senior now plenty of clubs with tradition but heading to a level compared to Longford nearly at this stage. I wonder will they even bother playing the other group games now. Meath.v.offaly,Meath were up by 3 at half time,I wonder is it a case of Meath being good or Offaly not as good as recent years. An interesting group
