If the score app is correct Cavan was restored to 15 men 3 minutes after Sligo went down to 13 men. In that 7 minutes with a two man advantage Cavan out scored Sligo 0-3 to 0-0.

So they didn't have a two man advantage for 10 minutes.

You say this, but also say earlier it was the flukey goal which allowed Cavan to win. Which is it? Look, Cavan were starting to motor by that stage and would have won with or without the goal. It went from 0-8 to 0-4 at that stage, to 0-10 to 1-13. Hit 1-9 that last 15 mins. A flukey goal wasn't just the difference here. It was a combination of a lot of things, including the red card, but also Cavan bringing regulars off the bench and seeing the game off with ease when Sligo were tiring badly.

Straight red 37 mins Cavan Black Card 39 mins Sligo Black Card 46 mins Score was 0-8 to 0-7 when the goal went in. You call it lucky but in fairness it was a terrible blunder by the Sligo keeper so not exactly an act of god. Hard luck though, Sligo have every chance of winning those last 3 games and I expect Cavan will beat Tipp to help ye next weekend. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 08/03/2022 09:27:27 2404384 Link 0 |
I'd have to agree with you in fairness. Sligo didn't capitalize enough on the chances they had in the first half and Cavan didn't seem to panic at any stage despite missing several chances themselves in the first half and only scoring twice. None of Sligo's subs made any major impact in the game. However on the day I don't think Sligo were 6 points the worse team. Bar the goal I think the game had a draw written all over it. Our lads will need to learn how to bounce back from set backs in a game like a goal late on if we're to progress. We were still only two behind at that stage with 12/13 left on the clock including added time.

Can hardly call it a blunder if it came off the back of the goalkeeper whom knew nothing about it. Those type of goals are as rare as a blue moon. That was the score that put Cavan in front for the first time in the match on 62 minutes, of course Sligo would have tired, played pretty much all of the 2nd half with 14 and 10 minutes with 13. S..t or get off the pot tomorrow . We are still in with a chance of promotion provided Cavan beat Tipperary. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1606 - 12/03/2022 13:12:54 2405032 Link 0 |
Great win today and put up a big score. Unfortunately Tipp winning means that promotion is unlikely now. letsgosligo (Sligo) - Posts: 97 - 13/03/2022 21:45:22 2405285 Link 0 |
Promotion hopes are as good as gone with Tipp winning if they had lost it would still be in the balance. Tipperary have london Carlow to play and Cavan play London and Waterford they won't be slipping up there. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 14/03/2022 10:20:41 2405328 Link 0 |
The result in Cavan was most disappointing. What a game Sligo v Leitrim could have been! A lot of positives to take from the campaign, most notably Carabine and Evan Lyons. Several good showings from others too eg Cummins, McNamara, Towey, Reilly etc ShellyGael (Sligo) - Posts: 105 - 14/03/2022 21:02:19 2405470 Link 0 |
We have had some poor days over the years. The demise of the Corrigan era London beating us in the championship even the covid situation but if we had lost yesterday it would have surpassed them all. Started the second half with a 2 man advantage which finished up with us having 4 extra men at the final whistle it is just incomprehendible how we nearly blew it. The players should be mortified and if there isn't a serious kick out of them for the game next weekend then I will be truly lost for words. At the start of this campaign I didn't expect to get promoted but these Jekyll and Hyde performances where we put up record scores against poor opposition and then produce that ***** yesterday. Time for these players to xxxx or get off the pot eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1606 - 21/03/2022 11:33:38 2406138 Link 0 |
We hardly deserve promotion anyway after scraping by 11 man Waterford. Even though Cavan nearly got caught and left the door open for the last weekend. Would be more concerned now heading into championship than I was before the league started as if were missing any of our few key men the whole thing seems to fall apart. Anyone else at the game yesterday mystified by some of the decisions of the referee?? No idea what Beirne got his marching orders for, Carrabine's was harsh.. he blew up Alan Reilly for taking to long for a mark while the ball was mid air… There was 2 if not 3 challenges the same as Carrabine's and he decided his one warranted a red… it'll be interesting to see is it overturned. Overall there is some green shoots in the development of Sligo… BreakingBall123 (Sligo) - Posts: 23 - 28/03/2022 09:32:54 2407628 Link 0 |

Very sad and shocked to hear of the passing of Red Og, a fantastic Sligo footballer. Sincere sympathy to his family, his friends and to his club mates in Curry GAA club, and DCU and to all associated with the GAA in Sligo. To be named in the Sigerson team of the year this year shows what a great player he was. All GAA folk throughout the country, stand with you today in your grief. May Red Og Rest in Peace. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 463 - 02/04/2022 11:22:22 2409027 Link 1 |
