Murphy being back only stopped Gallen scoring another 20-25 points from frees. I don't think he was as bad as people are making out here. Truth be told, the last two years are his best in the senior panel by a long shot. Being the main free and penalty man last year meant he scored more and rightfully was given an all star since he also scored a lot from play.
He did miss a crucial free against Galway which pretty much ended our day. But he's a good footballer. Not a consistent world beater but on his day he can roast any defender. If he's not taking frees or scoring he doesn't continue a whole lot, hence why he we subbed off a lot this year. He's still a young top baller who is brilliant.

Murphy won't be back next season imo.
If he does, he won't be playing league that's for sure.
Hope he does come back but at 36 I think he would rather focus on club now.

Regarding the player who was dropped. Why are people afraid to say his name? There were rumours he was misbehaving and was dropped because of it. He was never going to play. A very good club player and still young enough to break through at county. He was very good in our 2023 season tbh and was a massive reason we won ulster final in 2024.

I don't think wanting to play for your club can be called misbehaving. We had people giving out last weekend that players played for their club yet when a player does he's 'punished'.

The big fear taking murphy back, put your county back yrs. No one ever thought of this. Worst thing that has ever happened donegal. Who takes the frees next year if murphy retires now ???"
Nonsense... Murphy being there didn't stunt Gallen, anyone who watched our games live would see that every time Murphy got the ball he was looking to bring other forwards into the game. Gallen and Langan are 2 brilliant free takers

Replying To ThroughTheGap:  "Bringing Murphy back did have an impact on Gallen. The handy frees that allow you to tally up scores, building confidence, and having that leadership role, probably hurt him a little. For what it's worth, I think Murphy will and should come back next year. We are close."
What happens next year if you fall short again? Murphy come back in 2027 ?

There was life last year without Murphy when we won Ulster and got to an AI Semi Final. A season Monaghan would love to have.

You could have done with McManus the day yous blew a 7 point half time lead in Croker this year.
