Replying To Leitrimdivide:  "One of our coaches James Glancy walked out of our management team to join ye in longford. what are the opinions of him?? Very poor form I thought and maybe karma could be sweet if we got promoted and ye are gone down."
It didn't go down to well in Leitrim when James walked out but by all accounts Andy Moran wasn't too bothered that he did and that's common knowledge. I'd rather see both teams playing in division 3 next year but unfortunately that's not gonna happen now.

Replying To B&G:  "We all know the state of Leinster football. All we can do is to improve our stock. In fairness we were set up for season, Established manager. Everyone made themselves available for selection and we went into league with momentum.
The questions that needs to be asked are
1. Why did so many players walk away during the league? Some of them actual starters.
2. Was there a gameplan. During the O'Byrne Cup we were letting the ball into inside forward line and it was paying dividends. During the league is was passing the ball through the hands and eventually players afraid to shoot (as against Offaly).
Only match which seen a 70 minute performance was last Saturday when it was too late.
3. What coaching went on during the league. This was not evident during the league. We were opened time and time again down the middle.
4. What was idea of playing Mickey Quinn at wingforward. He was ineffective there. He was effective when moved to midfield and his natural position centreback.

The players are the ones I feel sorry for. They put in a solid amount of work since last November, some with colleges as well. Their commitment cannot be doubted. We have been short changed by management team. We only have a small pool of players and they should not be neglected.
As I said previously we are going to lose a few established players no doubt at end of season. Next season will be very tough in Div 4. Unless we can come up with something like a victory or 2 in championship and a good run in Talteann Cup which may spark something for next year. (Like the victory over mayo did in 2010) it will be a long winter."
On your point #1...

Comparing starting 15 from the league opener against Fermanagh to the starting 15 for the Down game, Longford had just 3 changes in personnel. Compare that to Down where 8 of their starting 15 on Saturday weren't in their starting 15 for their league opener against Tipperary.

At a panel level, 7 of the 26 from the Fermanagh game were not on the Longford panel in Newry. Those were Daithi Mulvihill, Gary Rogers, James McGivney, Peter Lynn, PJ Masterson, Robbie Smyth and Ruairi Harkin. The 7 names that came into the panel since the start of the league are Daire O'Brien, Darragh Doherty, Jack Macken, Liam Connerton, Michael Hughes, Oran Kenny and Rian Brady. I think you would find similar (and larger) movements in and out of a county panel across the league to be honest, so I think that element is overstated. You also won't keep everyone involved - there will always be differences of opinion and priority changes within a group that big, even with the greatest manager in the world. I don't think Longford is any worse than anyone else in Division 3 in that regard.

Otherwise, I agree with your assessment.

I feel we got a bit over excited about winning the O'Byrne cup, yes it was great to start the season on a a high but we played against B teams so we never really knew what to expect! To be honest I follow longford club football very closely and there is not to many others that could step up and make a change at present, maybe Jack Duggan, or McGivney could possibly make the starting 15 but would they have stopped us from falling to Div 4? I dont think so. at present the squad is stronger than last year but reality is Div 4 is our level now and more than likely will be for a few more years! if someone could name players at present to step up be my guest at naming them?? I feel our club scene is possibly one of the weakest in Ireland at present but there seems to be a lot of work being put in at underage to hopefully change that.

players always walk away from every panel every year. agree with your second point why this was stopped i cant understand. only those involved know what coaching happens, im sure it was happening who knows maybe it was the best coaching you can get and the players didnt implement it. on quinn he played his best game in years against down, around the middle is best where he can pick up ball and go forward why he wasnt doing that at wing forward is anyones guess, hopefully he can play like the last day into championship. dont agree that centre back is natural as he does not mark. longford had the best panel to them at the start only duggan leaving is a worry as one off our better young players. i dont know why mcgivney was brought back he hasnt impressed in a long time and is nowhere near fitness level for intercounty football

We are not Kerry or dublin fitness still asset to Longford as small county .Tell me all subs or players better than Mcgivney in the county

Jimmy won't stay on a panel if it isn't getting games so he is the issue not the manager

I thought that David McGivney was injured. That is why he was not available last Saturday.
Did he leave the panel?

He left. Wasn't getting any game time and decided he was better off playing for his club.

Massive issue with management if Duggan was cut, as at present he is possibly the best young forward in the county! obviously if he has walked away that is a different concern! we need to try encourage our best young players!
