Only one team relegated according to today's Longford Leader. So St Columba's to win the championship and Killashee to be relegated.

It's postponed. Both clubs and the county board agreed to a postponement over player welfare concerns. There was no concession. Concessions happening frequently this year at all levels, we already had Colmcille concede a league final, Killashee looking to pull out of the senior championship and even Killoe minors conceding a division 1 match to Clonguish. It is not good for Longford football

At the start of the year it was supposed to be 2 down from what I heard. The next two years the league and championship was to relegate 2 to get the numbers down to 10. Maybe the Leader have just consigned Killashee already and saying one goes down from the other 11!!

Replying To Spinx:  "It was mentioned to me over the weekend that Dominic Corrigan would be interested in taking the job. One of his selectors would be his nephew Collie Clarke who would have good knowledge of the local scene. If they are going outside the county they need to get a manager in before the end of the group stages of the championship. Give the manager a chance to see players in action in competitive club football."
Dominic Corrigan is a great shout. Massive experience and success in club football across many counties, most recently with Ballinamore. Very involved in McRory cup with St Michael's up to his retirement this year. Has the benefit of managing at county level before with Sligo and Fermanagh. Big step up from club level so proven he can do it and knows what's involved. Collie Clarke knows the Longford game inside out and would surely form part of his team. There might not be massive interest in the job anyway and we need someone to hold the fort while we bring a few new players through.

It's well known Dominic is looking for a county job for a while now since he left Ballinamore. I'd also add Terry Hyland to that list if he was interested, I thought he was fierce hard done by with ourselves and Covid. He'd surely keep ye in Division 3 and maybe even bring ye up a Division.

From results listed on the county site, I count 41 games conceded by Longford clubs this year from ~300 games (others conceded by Leitrim clubs in cross-border league, so i'm not counting those). So around 14% of all games so far ended up being conceded. I'm sure the odd one will have a good reason behind it, but you would have to question many of them. Some very sobering statistics there. Very worrying when you see cancellations creeping into the underage games. Some of the biggest clubs are affected by it, in fact it looks like every club is.
I think everyone needs to ask questions from their own club. I was disappointed to see that my club , which has been strong for a number of years, wouldn't play a very strong Clonguish outfit in the minor during the week.
Disappointing that young players are learning that this is the norm now.

With the exception of Ballymore and Grattans, every other club in the county was involved in conceding at least 1 game this year at Senior club and/or Minor club level. Would be interesting to see a breakdown of reasons. This is the sort of stuff the county board should put in their convention report, and make public. Can't start to address an issue if you don't fully understand it.

How does replying to a post on conceded games by agreeing that this is indeed a major problem, and adding actual data for this entire season so that the size of this major problem can be accurately quantified without guessing or hearsay to help underpin what a big problem it is, constitute 'singing a new tune'? Might want to give your head a wobble there slashers9.

I've heard the majority of games conceded at Junior level for the likes of Clonguish and Slashers was because of some rule change that was brought in this year where a lad who played a senior league game last year couldn't play junior this year. Both clubs have a few lads who are sitting at hone because they can't play junior football.

I believe those Senior clubs that you mentioned were not able to field in the Div 3 or Div 5 fixtures as they were not allowed to play any of their first 30 players!!!!

In a year where most clubs seem to be struggling for numbers, it is very unfair to have to look to players no.31 to no.45 in your club to field a team. The Co. Board need to revise their rule on this or else those senior clubs should not enter those Junior/Intermediate leagues. I'd say there will be a lot of walkovers too in the Junior Championships too,

This year in particular it appears that clubs are down on playing numbers. Players have opted out for different reasons. It is the first year ''post Covid'' that lads are now able to travel or do things they missed out on in their life for the last few summers.

What happened for you is that the list of which clubs were actually conceding games didn't fit your preference to jump on a specific club you seem to have an issue with - I can't help you with that. Clubs conceding games (I've listed all of them) should face consequences, and if concessions occur because of impossible new rules set by CB, then CB should be made to answer for that.

Exciting first round of games. The bookies must have cleaned up this weekend!!

Too early to pick a winner but its now not as straightforward as I thought it would be to pick who comes out of the groups.

No complaints after that. Beaten by the better team. Big challenge now against Colmcille hopefully this is a wake up call. Well done Rathcline

Some eye opening results for anyone who thought this championship was going to be a two or three horse race. I was impressed with a very understrength colmcille team on how they brushed clonguish aside with little fuss. A mature performance playing like a team that had a few championships, though opposition was poor. Rathcline though must be the team of the weekend. Young kenny was outstanding and killoe had no answer to him or the rats hunger and work ethic all around the pitch. Rathcline could upset a few more big names if they can keep that intensity up and don't get carried away treating that match as their county final. Killoe were still short a few but still had a team out that would fancy themselves for a championship so what rathcline did cannot be underestimated

A few surprises alright. The only guarantee at this stage is it will be Killashee and Clonguish in the relegation final.

I was very happy with the Slashers performance . J Kelly Robbie Clarke and Dobson played really well in the forwards. I was worried about midfield but the boys won that battle. McNiven is a great bit of stuff. Granard are a decent team but they are no where near direct enough. It is very hard to sustain that running game for 60 minutes.
Keenan pulled a rabbit out of the hat there with Dobson and he was very influential. Dermot Brady is some man and he still has the drive and fitness levels to perform week in week out.
I feel sorry for everybody involved in St Brigids. It is horrible to take such a beating.
